About the role:

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the high-tech industry to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent writing and communication skills, and a proven ability to create clear, concise, and engaging customer-facing documentation. This role requires a unique blend of technical skills and ability to create clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation. The incumbent will demonstrate a natural curiosity in the earth sciences and how technology products can facilitate positive science outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Technical Writing:

  • Develop and maintain a wide range of technical documentation collateral, including user manuals, installation guides, training materials, data sheets, and online help systems.

  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other subject matter experts to gather, understand, and articulate complex technical information.

  • Collaborate with other departments to develop best practices for creating instructional collateral for both internal and external use.

  • Become proficient in product purpose and operation to enable the translation of complex technical concepts into clear and concise language suitable for diverse audiences.

  • Ensure documentation is accurate, consistent, clear and up-to-date.

  • Conduct reviews and edits to improve the quality and effectiveness of documentation.

Technical Drawings / Illustration:

  • Create technical technical drawings, wiring diagrams, cable connection guides, diagrams and other illustrations to effectively convey and clarify technical concepts.

  • Ensure that illustrations are accurate, clear, and consistent with the overall documentation style.

Content Coordination and Management:

  • Organize and manage a full collection of technical product information collateral including, the principle product specification database, customer-facing knowledge base, and internal knowledge base.

  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

  • Collaborate with project teams to coordinate documentation efforts and ensure timely delivery.

  • Track and report on project progress and identify potential issues.

  • Propose, develop, and implement best-practice improvements to documentation processes, methods and tools, including incorporating AI in workflows to enhance the final product.

Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements.

  • Develop a deep understanding of seismology concepts and technologies.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer in the high-tech industry.

  • Strong technical writing skills with a proven ability to write clear, concise, and accurate documentation.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear and concise language.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and a commitment to quality.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Proficiency in authoring tools, illustration software, knowledge base development, AI and project management tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe Suite, JIRA, and Zendesk).

  • Diploma in technical writing or a Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, industrial design or a related field.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for technical communication.

  • Experience writing technical documentation for sensors or other electronic devices preferred.

  • Experience with single-sourcing, content management systems, XML authoring and publishing, and proficiency in diagram creation.

  • Background in technical communication, engineering, physics, seismology, geophysics, or a related field.

Salary Information:

The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000, plus a corporate discretionary bonus. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s skills, competencies, and experience for the position.
