is one of Canada’s , recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and social impact. Located across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), one of the most diverse and dynamic communities in the world, York offers a vibrant and inclusive environment for teaching, research, and community engagement. York University’s , embedded within the , is a newly established medical school launching in 2028 with an ambitious mission to shape the next generation of physicians through innovation, compassion, and discovery. Guided by the , the School is at a pivotal moment of foundation building, requiring leaders who are energized by the opportunity to help shape its future and build meaningful partnerships with communities and health systems across Ontario. Through its Integrated Community-based Learning Network (ICLN), the School is advancing a distributed model of medical education that connects learners to diverse clinical settings, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement from the outset.

The School of Medicine at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a Clinical Associate or Clinical Full Professor position to commence August 2026 or as mutually agreed, with consideration of candidates beginning immediately. The successful candidate will be appointed as Associate Dean Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) with an initial 5-year term, with the possibility of renewal. The role is expected to require 2 to 4 days per week, with flexible scheduling intended to complement active clinical practice. This is an open clinical faculty appointment in the Clinical Professorial Stream, as described in the . The successful candidate will identify a home department to be appointed (i.e., Family Medicine, Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Surgery, Community & Population Health & Health Systems Transformation, Anesthesia, Medical Imaging, or Pathology, Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine) in the School of Medicine or a joint appointment across two departments.

Reporting to the Vice-Dean, Medical Education, York University seeks an inaugural Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education (AD PGME). This is a rare opportunity to play a foundational leadership role within a new School of Medicine and a growing decanal team. The Associate Dean will lead the development of postgraduate medical education from the ground up, establishing the structures, systems, and culture that will define residency training at York. Central to this role is building strong, trusted relationships with clinical partners, healthcare organizations, and communities across Ontario as the School launches and expands its distributed training model. The Associate Dean will provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of residency programs, ensuring alignment with national accreditation standards and the School’s mission of social accountability. Working closely with senior academic leaders, Program Directors, and partners across the ICLN, the Associate Dean will advance competency-based medical education (CBME), lead accreditation processes, foster a learner-centred and inclusive training environment, and contribute to institutional planning and innovation across the medical education continuum.

The ideal candidate will be a respected academic physician and collaborative leader with significant experience in postgraduate medical education and academic medicine. They will bring a demonstrated track record of leadership in accredited residency programs, with deep knowledge of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and/or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) accreditation standards and CMBE. The successful candidate will have experience working within complex, distributed or community-based training environments, along with a strong record of teaching, scholarship, and program development. They will possess exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders across academic, clinical, and health system settings. A commitment to learner-centred education, continuous quality improvement, and equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenous engagement is essential. An MD (or equivalent), eligibility for licensure in Ontario, and academic credentials suitable for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Clinical Professor are required.

First Nations peoples have lived on this part of Turtle Island for millennia, stewarding the land, the water and all that contributes to life in this region. Today, the culture and presence of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples enrich the lands and people of this territory. More than two centuries ago, the Mississauga people welcomed settlers to this territory, providing sustenance and engaging in trade and commerce. Today, York University campuses are located on the Toronto Purchase Treaty No. 13 lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the lands of the Anishinabek of the Williams Treaties First Nations. Our campuses are also situated on the traditional territories of the Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee. Treaty history is foundational, and it is our collective responsibility to honour the land, as we honour and respect those who have gone before us, those who are here and those who have yet to come. We are grateful for the opportunity to be learning, working and thriving on this land, and we commit to learn the truth and be active in the process of reconciliation.
