Job Description

We are currently hiring for a Project Engineer in our Vehicle Electronics team to support our M1A1 vehicle program. As part of the team, you’ll work closely with program teams and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to spot risks early, identify obsolescence of components and recommend a replacement to minimize manufacturing impacts of supported systems to keep everything moving smoothly.

You will support product testing to evaluate issues in support of obsolescence and enable test equipment functionality; support hardware updates and plan and coordinate the execution of small projects within the group. Day to day:

• Provide engineering analysis and other related technical analysis and recommendations of component replacements.
• Provide engineering knowledge-based predictive obsolescence surveillance of electronic components.
• Interface with component OEM’s to monitor obsolescence activities and solutions.
• Evaluate and qualify alternative components to replace obsolete parts without compromising product performance or quality.
• Produce and maintain BOM’s/part lists.
• Maintain detailed documentation of obsolescence management activities and decisions.
• Prepare and present reports on obsolescence risks and mitigation plans to stakeholders including external customers.
• Support the development of test plans
• Document analyses, designs and tests (, tech notes, requirements specifications, design documents, test plans, test reports, and procedures) in the format prescribed by standard templates. May assume ownership of standalone documents.
• Investigate product problems, analyze root causes and derive resolutions.
• Initiate and manage product changes through Change Requests (CR) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECP).
• Make observations and work with others to take measurements, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved.
• Manage some projects related to product improvements.
• Provide technical support during integration and qualification testing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 3+ years of applicable experience, ideally in product and design environment, electrical or mechanical
• High proficiency with computers and applications such as MS Suite (Excel, Access, Project, Visio, Powerpoint).
• Disciplined approach to engineering development
• Knowledge of printed circuit board layout, power distribution, mechanical enclosures, stack-up and manufacturability.
• Knowledge of electronic component specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, and cost of integrating for obsolescence.
• Familiar with Design For Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and expands knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities.
• Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes (, SMT, Wave)
• Knowledge of electronics Test equipment (Oscilloscope, Multi-meter, Production testing) and rework/repair of PCB.
• Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred
• Excellent organizational and communication skills including both oral and written.
• Working experience in fast paced manufacturing environment.
• Detail oriented with effective analytical and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
• Ability to travel inside and outside of Canada required.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. The hiring range for this position is $78,000-$91, goal is to provide a fair and competitive offer based on an assessment of internal equity and your qualifications, including:
