Job description

Position Overview:

Mechanics play an important role in ensuring proper performance, safety and reliability of vehicles and ground service equipment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Accountable for local maintenance scheduling and performance to ensure equipment dependability;
  • Perform all duties of a skilled maintenance technician following recognized procedures for such work, as required;
  • Ability to read and use maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other related maintenance documents to complete work assignments;
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic problems and resolve within an established timeframe;
  • Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records and conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections on equipment;
  • Perform mechanical repairs to all Inland equipment, including independent diagnosis and repair of engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical, hydraulic systems, brake repair and replacement, pump repair and/or replacement, etc.;
  • Operate equipment within close proximity to airfield personnel, aircraft and other airfield equipment safely and efficiently;


Please note : Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable Transport Canada Security Clearance and additional authorizations (Restricted Area Identity Card and Airside Vehicle Operators Permit).


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Certified Journeyman Truck and Coach Technicians or registered level 3 apprentice considered an asset;
  • Agricultural technician experience may be considered;
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • Must possess basic hand tools common to the trade up to 1/2" drive;
  • Must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays;
  • Must be able to speak and hear efficiently;
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to manipulate multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines at once;
  • Knowledge of fluid types, diesel powered machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance;
  • Maintain and treat all information as confidential;
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English;
  • Must be able to verbally direct in English;
  • Possess the tact to deal with all levels of employees and client representatives;
  • Proven knowledge and use of standard and specialty tools and specialized testing equipment (i.e. photo tachometer, diagnostics tools and hardware, scanners and meters);
  • A valid driver’s license is required for this position.


Work Environment:

Physically strenuous, prolonged periods of time standing with exposure to noise (may be excessive at times), safe but potentially unpleasant odors, varying temperatures and humidity, in and around heavy moving equipment. Working outside on the pad in all types of weather conditions (SNOW, RAIN, WIND, and whatever else Mother Nature deems necessary for the season).


Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, speak and hear efficiently;
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling;
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and twenty (20) pounds regularly;
  • Ability to climb 15-foot heights;
  • Ability to clearly see close-up and at a distance with ability to differentiate colour; use peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus;
