ABOUT SAANICH ORGANICS
This position is located at Northbrook Farm in the Mt Newton Valley near Victoria and is part of an exciting project within Saanich Organics.
As seed production assistant, you will be involved in all aspects of growing, rogueing, harvesting, cleaning, germination testing, and packing our open-pollinated seed for our seed business, Seeds of the Revolution!
There are also fresh crops to plant, tend, and harvest, namely salad greens and strawberries. Our methods include lots of bed prep wheelbarrowing compost and manure, rototilling, hoeing, troubleshooting, working with drip irrigation, cover cropping for winter, and generally aiming to improve soil health along the way! Saanich Organics has a 250 member CSA, wholesales to restaurants, supplies 3 farmers markets and 2 busy farm stands.

Attention to detail is especially important when it comes to seed growing.
Must be a good listener and ready to work in all kinds of weather, alone as well as with others.
We are long time certified organic growers and have mentored many new farmers in our community.
JOB TASKS
Tasks include seeding, weeding, wheelbarrowing and bed prep, rototilling, weedwacking, lots of harvesting strawberries, harvesting salad greens, irrigating, harvesting seed crops in the Fall and cleaning seed with machines especially built for the purpose : )
JOB DETAILS
Term : asap till October 31. Hours may be available earlier planting strawberries, depending when the ground dries. Possibility for a few more hours in November processing and testing seeds.
Hours per week : 32 hours (4 days) a week with the possibility to pick up an additional day driving deliveries. Piece-work blueberry picking also available outside scheduled hours.
Wage : $18 / hr and access to staff food bins (produce from all our farms)
