Position Summary
The Millwright is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial production and processing equipment. This role interprets blueprints and technical drawings, diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, and performs repairs using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, hoists, and lift trucks. The Millwright plays a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventive & Corrective MaintenanceMaintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace defective or malfunctioning machinery components.Disassemble and reassemble machinery and equipment to perform inspections, repairs, and overhauls.Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine preventive maintenance activities on machinery and equipment.Operate repaired machinery and equipment to verify the effectiveness and quality of repairs.Analyze test results, machine error messages, and operator feedback to identify and resolve equipment issues.Perform maintenance and repairs on pumps, augers, conveyors, float sink systems, shredding equipment, granulators, blowers, piping systems, and material handling equipment.Perform basic electrical troubleshooting, including checking fuses, overloads, relays, limit switches, sensors, proximity switches, and motor starters.Use multimeters and other diagnostic tools to assist in troubleshooting equipment failures.Replace fuses, sensors, photoeyes, and other low-complexity electrical components as required and within the employee's qualifications and company safety procedures.Assist in identifying electrical faults and work collaboratively with electricians or external contractors when advanced electrical repairs are required.
- Equipment Installation & FabricationRead and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, drawings, and technical specifications to determine work procedures.Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.Utilize machine tools, including grinders, drill presses, and saws, to fabricate or modify parts required for maintenance, repairs, and equipment setup.Operate lift equipment and material handling devices safely as required to perform maintenance and installation activities.
- Maintenance Planning & Inventory ControlMaintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and repair documentation.Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to develop, implement, and maintain maintenance programs, policies, and procedures.Monitor spare parts inventory levels and obtain pricing for replacement parts, tools, and maintenance supplies to ensure operational readiness.Report equipment non-conformances, safety concerns, and operational irregularities to the Lead Hand or Maintenance Manager.
- Safety, Compliance & Continuous ImprovementFollow all safety procedures, security measures, and company policies while performing job duties.Maintain the confidentiality of customer, supplier, and company information.Participate in ongoing training and apply newly acquired knowledge and skills to improve maintenance practices and equipment reliability.Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment performance, maintenance efficiency, and workplace safety.
Qualifications:
- Valid 433A Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate of Qualification.
- Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a licensed Millwright; 5+ years preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills in an industrial environment.
- Experience maintaining conveyors, pumps, granulators, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and related industrial equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, and process water systems in a recycling or manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Experience with MIG, TIG, and Arc welding equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting experience in an industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with motors, VFDs, sensors, photoelectric devices, and control circuits considered an asset.
- Familiarity with three-phase motors, motor starters, overload protection devices, and industrial control systems.
- Working knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, maintenance documentation, and safe work practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
