Senior Applications Architect

We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Applications Architect with master-level expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks and multi-tier system delivery to lead the structural design, logical components, and cross-platform integration of complex business applications. In this role, you will take technical ownership of the application ecosystem, specifying overarching architectures that blend custom in-house builds, Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) packages, and cloud environments. Operating across highly interdependent systems, you will map out component interactions, design secure integration boundaries, and steer project delivery tracks cleanly through formal enterprise technology governance checkpoints.

Location: Toronto, ON (Fully Onsite – 5 days/week required)

Duration: 8-month contract

Responsibilities
Enterprise Blueprint Engineering: Define the comprehensive structure, logical components, and functional layers of enterprise applications following the Zachman Framework matrices.

Component Serialization & Design Patterns: Specify interactions, layered hierarchies, and interface controls among application packages, databases, and middleware gateways to establish highly reusable system assets.

API Architecture & Technical Definition: Oversee technical requirement definitions and perform hands-on API design and integration mapping to support real-time data flows across distributed environments.

Data & Dimensional Modeling: Model complex business information structures using data modeling methodologies, creating robust Conceptual, Logical, Physical, and Dimensional data models.

Governance Architecture & Guidance: Navigate solutions through formal Architecture Governance Processes, actively managing technical artifacts across designated architecture gating checkpoints and compliance reviews.

Advanced Portfolio CASE Tooling: Author and maintain low-level enterprise blueprints, models, and metadata rules across all architecture domains utilizing PowerDesigner software suites.

Multi-Platform Systems Optimization: Define technical limitations, evaluate capacity parameters, and monitor infrastructure interactions for distributed solutions running across diverse computing platforms, operating systems, and communications protocols.

Requirements Translation & Specifications: Design detailed functional, structural, and technical requirements for new and existing business solutions, dynamic forms, and automated workflow engines.

Technical Walkthroughs & Leadership: Facilitate deep-dive architectural workshops with cross-functional IT groups, mitigating system risks, handling architectural dependencies, and setting code design constraints.



Qualifications
Enterprise Architecture Seniority: 10+ years of progressive professional experience leading full-lifecycle application architecture, data modeling, and large-scale systems delivery.

Framework Mastery: 10+ years of dedicated experience structuring multi-tier business solutions following the Zachman Framework principles (Strictly Required).

Hybrid Technology Footprint: 10+ years of proven background developing mixed-system architectures across custom in-house applications, COTS packages, and cloud platforms (Strictly Required).

Governance & Gating Literacy: Demonstrated expertise guiding complex IT initiatives smoothly through formal Architecture Governance Checkpoints and compliance gates (Strictly Required).

Integration & API Engineering Depth: Verified technical capability translating abstract business needs into exact API designs, middleware settings, and integration specifications (Strictly Required).

Advanced Data Modeling Proficiency: Practical knowledge of building and normalizing Conceptual, Logical, and Physical data schemas along with multidimensional analytics structures (Strictly Required).

Expert Software Modeling Tooling: Mastery utilizing PowerDesigner to build and manage comprehensive models across all architectural domains (Strictly Required).

Multi-Platform Literacy: Extensive engineering experience working across at least two distinct platforms, database setups, and communication protocols (e.g., HTTP, TCP/IP).

Soft Skills: Outstanding analytical problem-solving, negotiation, and verbal/written communication mechanics, with an established history of aligning multi-tier infrastructure configurations with tight project sprint deadlines.

Nice to Have:
Prior professional experience delivering architecture models, technology blueprints, or systems analysis within a Canadian public sector framework or corporate environment.

Foundational understanding of object-oriented analysis, metadata registries, and digital data strategies.
