The Senior HSE Coordinator will report directly to the Regional HSE Manager. This position is based in on-site in the Vancouver area.
What You Will Be Working On
- Assist and advise in the administration, documentation, and management of the Company’s COR program.
- Support and mentor HSE coordinators and see that they administer the implementation of the company HSE Program with the goal of consistency across all sites.
- Train and mentor site HSE staff on programs, eCompliance, Bistrainer and other technical elements of our operation.
- Support site staff with SIFP and recordable incident investigations.
- Touch point with all HSE coordinators minimum weekly.
- Document weekly / biweekly mentorship training.
- Engage staff in the development and review of safe work practices and safe job procedures.
- Audit trade partners for compliance.
- Support Regional Safety manager in proactively managing worker’s compensation claims and assist the HSE personnel in the monitoring of modified work claims on major projects.
- Support Regional Safety manager with issuing HSE bulletins, arrange special HSE meetings, and undertake HSE initiatives as required to support the HSE program.
- Project Start-up
- Assist in the planning and start-up of new projects with respect to HSE program.
- Assist project team in the development of project safety execution plan.
- Support the Project Mobilization Plans with the project team.
- Monitor changes in HSE regulations and work with the Regional Safety Manager in the dissemination appropriate information to all District staff.
- Promote and implement the Positive Safety Recognition Program throughout the district.
- Promote and monitor the leadership engagement program as well as train leadership staff on their requirements of the program.
- Support monthly safety program training safety initiatives for the branch.
- Provide back-up assistance to HSE Coordinators.
- Advise and support the HSE manager on focus items as well as weekly HSE topics.
- Attend monthly Superintendents meeting.
- Attend site scheduling meetings & trade partner meetings.
- Attend by-weekly HSE team meetings.
- Weekly touch point with HSE manager on all HSE matters.
Special Projects
- Have a visible presence in the field.
- Support site supervision with implementation and management of the Bird HSE program.
- Collaboratively work with site leadership to develop and facilitate an overall proactive safety culture on the work site.
- Act as a resource to field personnel to provide coaching, mentoring, and advice on all HSE related matters.
- Ensure that hazards associated with the work site are identified, documented, and controlled.
- Ensure all incidents on the worksite are reported, investigated, and documented in accordance with Bird Construction and client requirements, and corrective action plans are implemented.
- Ensure that HSE statistics are being completed.
- Develop and maintain an HSE communication bulletin board to ensure required documentation is readily available for review.
- Ensure that safety equipment and required personal protective equipment is in place as required, and any equipment with deficiencies is removed from service and repaired or replaced.
- Ensure that the project is supported for facilitation of toolbox and safety meetings and assist action items brought up in the HSE meetings as required.
- Ensure Bird and client safe work practices, policies, and procedures are reviewed regularly through toolbox and safety meetings.
- Review field level hazard assessments, hazard identification, observation, and inspection forms daily to ensure completion and accuracy.
- Liaise between client and crew to discuss HSE concerns.
- Perform work site inspections in accordance with Bird Construction and client requirements.
- Facilitate orientation and training for site staff and maintain accurate records of information.
- Keep management current on the status of any issue(s) that may have an impact on the work being performed.
- Other responsibilities as requested.
What We Are Looking For
- OH&S certificate or diploma from a post-secondary institution (BCIT, UofA, UNB, UFRED, or similar). Equivalencies will be considered.
- Hold a valid Level 2 or 3 First Aid certificate.
- CSO Designation is considered an asset.
- 5+ years’ HSE experience, preferably in a construction environment
- Valid Drivers License and Clean Driver’s Abstract
- End-User Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, Standard First Aid considered an asset
