Adecco is actively seeking a Fire Smart Coordinator to oversee the implementation of the Fire Smart Program in the Gold River area.

This is a full-time opportunity offering a competitive salary of $39.68 - $42.73 per hour. In this dynamic role, you will act as the main point of contact for the program, engage with local communities, coordinate Fire Smart projects, and work with a wide range of stakeholders to reduce wildfire risks.

  • Job type : Permanent Full-time Responsibilities :
  • Act as the main point of contact for the Fire Smart program, including coordinating the Fire Smart Canada Neighborhood Recognition program.
  • Recruit motivated community leaders and mentor them to work with self-organized groups of citizens planning and implementing wildfire mitigation projects.
  • Establish a Fire Smart Committee and coordinate monthly meetings.
  • Oversee Fire Smart renovation projects for critical infrastructure and community buildings.
  • Lead and deliver Fire Smart 101 sessions for targeted audiences to increase awareness and reduce wildfire risks.
  • Work with BC Wildfire Service, local fire departments, BC Parks, First Nations, BC Forestry, and BC Hydro to ensure effective wildfire risk reduction strategies.
  • Implement recommendations from the 2023 Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan and help improve local community safety and resilience.
  • Coordinate wildfire risk reduction and Fire Smart public education initiatives.
  • Assist in applying for and managing Fire Smart grants, ensuring funds are allocated to priority initiatives.
  • Provide on-site assessments for homeowners and offer recommendations on reducing wildfire hazards on their properties.
  • Coordinate and deliver wildfire response training, including tabletop exercises.
  • Assist the community during the activation of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) during an emergency, which may involve duties outside of regular responsibilities. Requirements :
  • Legal eligibility to work and reside in Canada.
  • A background in wildfire prevention, community safety, or environmental science.
  • Experience coordinating projects and working with diverse stakeholders (government, Indigenous groups, local communities).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of the Fire Smart Program and community wildfire resilience strategies is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Environmental studies or Forest experience an asset
