Technical Analyst, Mine Engineering Systems (Contract)

Collaborating with the Lead, Mining Systems, this motivated individual will join a high-performance team of specialists located in the Sparwood offices.

The Mining Systems team is responsible for the delivery and support of operational-critical technologies that are used to optimize safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of Teck’s mining operations.

The Technologist is the first point of contact with our users to solve systems, arrange system upgrades, facilitate parts replacements, and collaborate across a multitude of collaborators and service suppliers to develop, deliver, and maintain a wide portfolio of systems.

Responsibilities :

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures
• Communicate electronically (and in-person) with users experiencing technical difficulties
• Reproduce, diagnose, and analyze problems reported by end-users, in turn formulating solutions to resolve the issue at hand
• Train and advise users, both in response to identified difficulties and to share tips for efficient technology and software operation
• Set up and deploy Operational Technology hardware to our mine site users
• Address and resolve incoming tickets from users regarding hardware, software, and network issues
• Assess recurring issues to craft automated processes where identifiable
• Identify, deliver, and maintain mining systems across our operations, prioritizing safe production. Systems include a wide array of mining-specific Custom off the Shelf (COTS) products, the occasional in-house build, and hardware components
• Facilitate and support cyber-security improvements, incident response, and forensics

Qualifications :

• Diploma or demonstrated experience in the technology sector. A Bachelor’s Degree is considered an asset, but not required
• Experience delivering and supporting information technology services
• Natural curiosity and a thirst for problem solving
• Passionate about technology and learning how things work
• Strong dedication to customer satisfaction and the ability to maintain positive relationships with business partners, business management and application users
• Ability to work autonomously and within a highly distributed team environment
• Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop, server operating systems, virtualization, Active Directory, etc.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals relating to wireless networking, firewalls, and knowledge of common network protocols
• Valid class 5 drivers' license with a clean driving record
• Curiosity in learning more about the following systems : Komatsu Frontrunner / Modular, Wenco, CAT (Minestar, Terrain, PTM), Carlson Grade, Hexagon Safemine, Navstar, IBIS, Ground Probe
• Any knowledge of programming (using Microsoft .NET, C#, SQL Server, and Python or shell scripting including PowerShell) is considered an asset
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems is an asset
