The opportunity
The Head of Procurement is responsible for CWB Financial Group’s procurement function, including sourcing and procure-to-pay (P2P), contract management, and Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) support.
The focus of the position is to optimize overall purchasing costs, and add value while mitigating risk, without compromising quality customer service and satisfaction.
Develop and communicate a procurement business strategy, setting high standards and innovative procedures.
Envision and execute long-term departmental goals, focusing on cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Foster regular collaborations with CWB Financial Group departments and partner companies to enhance standards and procedures, ensuring they align with our goals.
Develop a robust sourcing strategy, conduct in-depth market research, and drive competitive procurement processes.
Oversee all aspects of the Coupa Business Spend Management platform, ensuring seamless procure-to-pay operations.
Effectively manage and communicate procurement standards, contracts, vendor performance, and third-party risk management.
Cultivate strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders, understanding their unique needs and dynamics.
Articulate and promote the value of procurement, operating it like a well-run professional services business.
Be the primary point of contact for procurement and third-party risk management support-related inquiries, aligning policies and procedures across all departments.
Take charge of the annual Procurement budget, monitoring key performance metrics and focusing on continuous improvement.
Develop and enhance the skills and competencies of our procurement staff, emphasizing training, development, and knowledge management.
Maintain robust partnerships with strategic suppliers to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets are consistently met.
Lead all procurement management activities, including market research and competitive processes.
Successful incumbent
This role requires an individual with a proven track record of strategic leadership, a deep understanding of procurement processes, excellent financial acumen, and the ability to foster strong supplier relationships.
They are regarded as a strategic thinker with strong business and financial acumen who drives innovation, change and process improvements.
They are known to be an exceptional communicator, influencer and negotiator, able to build and maintain strong partnerships with various key stakeholders.
Core knowledge requirements
Post-secondary education in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or related field with a specialization in Procurement.
One or more relevant industry designations, i.e., Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) designation.
Six Sigma and / or LEAN certification.
Professional experience
7+ years’ experience in Procurement, Sourcing and Relationship Management managing large, complex portfolios with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in supplier risk management.
3+ years of senior leadership experience.
Understanding of OSFI B-10 Outsourcing of Business Activities, Functions and Processes.
Experience in leading and supporting stakeholder interactions / relationships while leveraging strong customer service and consulting skills.
Understanding of procurement law and / or regulations.
In-depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices.
Strong negotiation skills to use for large commercial deals.
Experience with modern sourcing and procurement systems
Knowledge of enterprise risk management and business continuity planning.
Working knowledge of finance and / or accounting in terms of budgeting, cost management, financial accounting, treasury, risk management, etc.
Excellent MS Office (Word, Excel, MSQuery, Access, PowerPoint) capabilities required.
Ability to travel (as needed).
