Part Time Program Leader - Drop-In and / or General Programs (Seasonal Programs)
Reporting to the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Program Leader is accountable for planning and implementing safe, enjoyable and diverse drop-in programs and events, and assisting program the Program Instructors in assigned classes for children, youth and adults.
Key Duties
- Assists with the development and implementation of a safe, enjoyable sports program under the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator, working in accordance with the Program Instructor.
- Actively involved in leading / assisting all activities during program operation.
- Provides leadership, support, and resource knowledge to volunteers.
- Maintains program schedules and ensures deadlines are met.
- Monitors the arrival and departure of participants from programs.
- Works cooperatively and maintains ongoing and effective communication with participants, and the Community Recreation Coordinator.
- Abides by the Town of Ajax Policies and acts in a professional manner at all times.
- Ensures that the necessary equipment and supplies are available, set up, and that such equipment and supplies are maintained in a safe condition.
- Assists with general maintenance of program space (sweeping, litter control, etc.).
- Promotes an environment of safety and respect among participants in the program.
- Creates an environment that fosters a positive and inclusive program experience.
- Performs administrative tasks necessary to support the program.
- Other duties as assigned by the Community Recreation Coordinator or Program Instructor.
Qualifications / Skills
- Must be a minimum 16 years of age or older.
- Previous experience working with a variety of ages in a recreational setting.
- Excellent organization, time management and planning skills.
- Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- Able to provide a current Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) that is satisfactory to the Town (dated within last 6 months).
Nice to Have
Preferred 1 or more years’ experience related to the delivery of programs and services.
What is Offered to Staff
- Rate of Pay : $17.99 - $19.56 per hour.
- Hours of Work : This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. The hours of work are Sunday to Saturday, various shifts between 10 : 00 a.m. - 10 : 00 p.m.
