Senior Hardware Design Engineer
Location : Ottawa, ON
Department : Research & Development
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to hardware architecture and system‑level design.
- Conduct and participate in peer design reviews.
- Support the development and definition of circuit pack functional requirements.
- Participate in component engineering including component selection, coding, and review.
- Capture detailed circuit‑level schematics.
- Perform design simulations and analysis.
- Develop PCB stackups and guide PCB layout efforts.
- Manage and coordinate PCB layout resources.
- Work with high‑speed RF transmission lines and high‑speed digital interfaces.
- Lead bring‑up, debug, and characterization of new designs.
- Mentor and guide junior hardware engineers.
Author, maintain, and contribute to technical documentation, including :
Functional SpecificationsHardware Design SpecificationsVerification Test PlansECO Documentation and Design Release PackagesRequirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline.Minimum of 5+ years of relevant hardware design experience.Proven board‑level design experience including :
High‑speed digital circuit designAnalog circuit designPower supply / power management designProcessor and microcontroller interfacesClock distributionFPGA‑based designsExperience with thermal management in hardware systems.Knowledge of EMI / EMC design principles and compliance processes.Experience with schematic capture tools (OrCAD).Experience with PCB layout tools (Cadence Allegro).Strong signal integrity analysis experience.Experience with hardware tracking, validation, and testing processes.Proficiency with lab characterization equipment :
Oscilloscopes, DVMs, Spectrum Analyzers, Optical test equipmentHands‑on troubleshooting skills and practical lab experience.Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.Strong communication skills and a proactive, self‑starter mindset.Seniority level
