An exciting opportunity exists to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team within the new Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
Opening in October 2024, the Arthur Child is the second largest Cancer Facility in North America and will be the leading health care facility, academic and research Centre providing cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta.
Reporting to the Manager of Inpatient Oncology & Intensive Palliative Care the Recreation Therapist will support patients on unit 95 / 125 (formerly Unit 47 at the Foothills Medical Centre) which is 49 beds expanding over two floors, supporting patients that are under the care of Intensive Palliative Care / Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology teams.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the team utilizing the Integrated Collaborative Practice model of CoACT.
The Recreation Therapist will need to have exceptional communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Description :
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area.
You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice.
You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation.
You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.
Required Qualifications :
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications : Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated experience working with volunteer and support services (music therapy, pet therapy) and other interdisciplinary coordination.
Demonstrated experience with patient legacy work.
