Position Summary :

This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step as a financial lines underwriter. The position supports the successful execution of the units’ strategic plan, and is a meaningful contributor to the financial performance of the business unit.

It offers the ability to be an analytical and creative to provide unique solutions to our broker and client base. This position primarily focuses on Mid to Large Canadian Companies in all regions of the country.

It covers both Public and Private companies across all D&O product lines.

What will your typical day look like?

• Underwrites new and renewal business submissions ensuring proper risk selection, endorsements and pricing while adhering to underwriting authority.
• Responsible for individual profitable growth and management of a portion of department premium, as assigned.
• Independently establishes and maintains effective relationships with Brokers and generates opportunities.
• Negotiates pricing, terms and conditions for proposed insurance contracts.
• Attends and actively engages in client meetings, comes prepared with well researched questions and communicates effectively with the client.
• Works with a sense of urgency and meets deadlines.
• Handles complex policy administration including manuscripts, new product wordings, and other custom requests. Works with legal and claims teams to ensure proper execution.
• Works both independently and collaboratively to assess risk.
• Assists in the development of long and short-term underwriting strategic plans and executes on those objectives.
• Adheres to all authority / underwriting guidelines.
• Performs file audits of individual risks for compliance with company guidelines and reinsurance conditions.
• Stays informed and up to date on any changes, trends, news, legal developments that may impact the D&O product line.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Characteristics :

• University degree
• CPA, CFA or pursing CFA an asset
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as an underwriter dealing with complex accounts
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Familiarity with S&P CapIQ and financial analysis tools
• Strong oral and written communication skills as well as negotiation abilities
• Effective time management skills
