Term: Temporary, Full-Time

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift: Monday – Friday with shifts between the hours of 7:30am – 6:00pm

Start Date: June 2026

End Date: August/September 2026

Salary: $23.14 per hour

Nature & Scope

Join Our Team! We’re seeking a compassionate and collaborative individual to support our inclusive before and after school program. In this part-time role, you’ll work closely with a dedicated staff team to create a welcoming environment where all children—regardless of their needs—can thrive. Responsibilities include supervising activities, providing individual support when needed, helping children navigate conflict, and role modeling positive behaviors. You’ll contribute to care plans, support children’s strengths, maintain an appropriate child to staff ratio, and ensure every child feels included and supported. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a child’s day while fostering a community of belonging and growth.

Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate, child-centered activities that encourage growth, exploration, and participation for children 5-12 years of age
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that supports children’s unique strengths and areas for growth.
  • Supervise and manage children indoors and outdoors, including escorting them between school and the community center.
  • Provide individualized support and assist in developing and reviewing care plans for children with diverse needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to maintain an enhanced staff-to-child ratio and ensure all children receive the attention they need.
  • Support children in resolving conflicts and consistently model respectful, positive behavior.
  • Communicate daily with parents, caregivers, school staff, and team members, including educating caregivers on program procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in all activity areas and washrooms.
  • Ensure compliance with all Provincial licensing regulations, YMCA BC standards, and organizational policies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, appropriate attire, and positive role modeling

Qualification-you bring:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Experience working with children 5 – 12
  • Emergency First Aid and CRC – C & AED
  • 20 hours of training in Child Development, Child Guidance and/or Nutrition an asset
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
  • If funded by Canada Summer Jobs, the candidate must fulfill all Canada Summer Jobs requirements
