Job description
Position Summary
The Opportunity

Northern Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Emergency Department team at Kitimat Regional Hospital. This dynamic role involves providing emergency care to patients of all ages in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The NP will manage CTAS 4 and 5 cases independently, assist with CTAS 1 and 2 cases, and occasionally manage CTAS 3 cases. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with physicians and emergency nurses, supported by telemedicine tools and flexible scheduling. Advanced certifications required: ACLS, PALS, ATLS, and CASTED.

Key Responsibilities

Independently assess and manage CTAS 4 and 5 patients.
Occasionally manage CTAS 3 cases and assist with CTAS 1 and 2 cases.
Collaborate with physicians and emergency department nurses to deliver high-quality emergency care.
Utilize PowerChart or paper-based documentation systems.
Engage with virtual services to support emergency care delivery.
Contribute to a team-based approach to emergency medicine.

About the community

Kitimat Set in a beautiful and natural ocean, mountain and valley paradise, Kitimat is located on the Douglas Channel just a few miles off British Columbia’s inside passage. Kitimat was built in the 1950’s and is one of BC’s youngest coastal communities. Main industries include an aluminum smelter, a pulp and paper mill and a petrochemical manufacturer. The population of Kitimat is approximately 8,236. The community has three elementary schools, two secondary schools, and one post-secondary school. About the Hospital

Kitimat General Hospital and Health Centre is a modern 11,150 sq m (120,000 sq. health complex located adjacent to downtown. The complex includes 58-beds (36-multi-level care and 22-acute care), two operating rooms and complete laboratory, rehabilitation, and diagnostic imaging departments. It also contains clinics for diabetes outreach, public health, home care, home support and mental health services, as well as offices for physicians and visiting specialists.

Salary Range

New Graduate NP - $145,739
1 Year Experience - $153,026
2 Years Experience - $160,313

Qualfications
Education and Experience
-Completion of BCCNM approved Master’s degree level nurse practitioner program.
- Eligible for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

- Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care and prognosis.
- Ability to collaborate, consult with and formally refer patients/clients/residents to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
