As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of complex tooling concepts and guide projects from early-stage design through to production implementation. Your work will directly impact how automated systems perform on the floor.

You will be relied upon not just for your technical ability, but for your judgment, your ability to anticipate challenges, and your capacity to bring clarity to complex design problems.

This is an opportunity to step into a role where your experience is valued and your input shapes outcomes.

Position Description

  • Develop and refine tooling concepts based on part data, customer requirements, and production realities
  • Design and oversee complex fixtures and automated tooling used in welding and assembly environments
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and manufacturability
  • Recommend design improvements that enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance
  • Review customer specifications and ensure full compliance throughout the design process
  • Act as a technical lead across cross-functional teams, including Controls, Project Management, and Sales
  • Participate in client-facing discussions, providing technical insight and solutions
  • Mentor and review the work of junior and intermediate designers, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal design standards and best practices

Experience

  • Engineering degree or Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma
  • 5 to 8+ years of hands-on experience designing tooling for automated manufacturing environments
  • Strong exposure to automated welding and assembly systems

Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical design principles
  • Experience working with systems that integrate robotics, electrical, and fluid power components
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
  • Comfortable taking ownership while collaborating across teams
  • Sound judgment and the confidence to make decisions
  • The ability to identify risks and solve problems proactively
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement and technical excellence

Education

Engineering degree or Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma.
