What You Will Do
We’re looking for an analytical and collaborative professional to help strengthen our organization’s approach to risk, compliance, and internal controls as Risk and Compliance Analyst. Reporting to the Manager, Risk and Compliance, this role will carry out a wide variety of tasks to support DUC’s risk management program, compliance activities, insurance portfolio, internal audit capacity, and other areas of relevance within the legal & risk department.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist in risk identification, monitoring, and reporting as part of DUC’s risk management activities, including:Conduct risk identification and baseline assessment exercises;Assists with maintaining and updating DUC’s risk register and supporting documentation;Coordinate with other departments to ensure risks are being adequately addressed according to action plans and mitigation strategies;Assist in compiling risk reporting materials for internal review.
- Perform administrative duties and support day-to-day function of DUC’s insurance portfolio, including:Assist with budget centre insurance inquiries; Handle internal and external requests for insurance documentation, including certificates of insurance;Provide support for the annual corporate portfolio renewal by liaising with business units to obtain required inputs and information;Assist with the annual Manitoba Public Insurance renewal;Assist in claims handling and incident documentation.
- Perform audit tasks:Assist with certain planning exercises;Assist with carrying out existing internal audit activities (finance & admin audit program, and other operational audits)Perform certain audit procedures in targeted/ad-hoc/process audits and reviews as they arise; Assist in documenting audit findings and supporting evidence;Support the external audit process by coordinating document requests and preparing materials;Contribute to the documentation of internal processes and control procedures.
- Assist in collecting inputs and information that supports the maintenance and updating of DUC’s business continuity plan and disaster response documentation.
- Perform administrative tasks to support DUC’s compliance function as this area grows. Provide support for data collection and collation in maintaining compliance with DUC’s annual returns, registrations, intellectual property, and other areas.
- Provide support for process & policy documentation, development, and revisions across the Legal & Risk Department as required.
Requirements
- 2 years of professional experience in insurance, risk management, finance, or similar.
- Bachelor’s degree or professional certificate in an appropriate field (e.g. business administration, accounting/finance, etc.).
- Exposure to risk management, insurance, audit, or compliance environment is considered an asset.
- Additional designations in insurance, risk management, accounting, or finance could be an asset but not mandatory.
- Experience and familiarity with basic risk management concepts.
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capacity, and attention to detail; ability to analyze complex data and information.
- Formal training in either risk management or audit.
- Intermediate level of knowledge/experience with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Dynamics, etc.)
- Strong technical skills in documentation and reporting.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; strong business acumen.
- Ability to foster strong internal relationships and trust at various levels.
- Collaborative spirit and adaptable to changing needs of other individuals.
- Ability to function effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to process problems and make effective recommendations for improvement or resolution.
