This Position reports to:
R&D Manager – North America
This internship is a full-time summer position scheduled for 2026, with a hybrid work model requiring three days per week onsite at the Dorval office. It is embedded within a software development environment that emphasizes Scrum Agile methodology, fostering iterative development, continuous feedback, and collaborative workflows. The primary focus is on embedded software development, specifically aimed at enhancing and maintaining embedded firmware and software systems
Responsibilities
The intern will become an integral member of a specialized embedded software team, contributing to improving software quality through the implementation of new procedures, structures, and tools. The role involves hands-on development, validation, and documentation tasks aligned with team priorities.
- Design, conception, and testing of configuration file management solutions.
- Develop systems for mass generation, editing, and searching of text-based configuration files. Utilize C# command-line tools and GUI applications, along with Excel VBA and web-based applications to facilitate configuration management.
- Firmware Simulator Development: Create simulators for embedded hardware components such as chargers, monitoring systems, and emergency lighting controllers. Enable testing and validation of firmware in a simulated environment, reducing reliance on physical hardware during development cycles.
- Automation of Integration Tests: Implement automated testing frameworks leveraging the firmware simulators. Ensure robustness, reliability, and compliance of integrated software components through continuous testing.
- Unit Test Management: Develop, update, and maintain unit tests to verify individual code modules. Conduct ongoing validation to ensure code stability and adherence to quality standards.
- Technical Documentation: Validate and enhance technical documentation for clarity, traceability, and maintainability. Support knowledge transfer and facilitate future development efforts.
Requirements
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a comprehensive set of technical competencies and linguistic proficiency:
Programming Languages & Frameworks:
- C, C++, C# with experience in GUI and command-line application development.
- Excel VBA for automation within spreadsheets.
- PowerShell scripting or batch files (considered assets for automation tasks).
Version Control & Testing:
- Git for source code management.
- Experience with unit testing and integration testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous integration and deployment.
Embedded Systems & Microcontrollers:
- Knowledge of STMicroelectronics and Silicon Labs microcontroller families, essential for embedded firmware development and validation.
Development Environment & Tools:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
- Ability to design and interpret electrical schematics, critical for embedded system validation and hardware-software integration.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn within an Agile Scrum environment.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project demands and work effectively in a team setting.
- French is required. English is also required to communicate with customers outside Quebec on a regular basis and to to facilitate communication within the team and documentation.
