Introduction
The Department of Environment and Climate is seeking qualified individuals to fill various Water Resource Officer positions within the Drainage and Water Rights Licensing Branch. Duties : The Water Resource Officer will assist in the delivery of all water control works licensing programs in the region, including
licensing, enforcement and overall watershed management. Some of the duties include : reviewing applications and drafting
authorizations; investigating complaints and conducting enforcement activities. Water resource officers are on the front line as it
relates to the receipt of water control works applications, the submission of complaints and conducting enforcement activities. Qualifications : Essential :
- College diploma in natural resource management, land and water management, civil engineering or agriculture, or an equivalent. Combination of applicable education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in the application of hydraulic and hydrologic principles related to water management and / or experience with surface water drainage planning / water control works assessment evaluation.
- Experience with conducting and interpreting topographic surveys and aerial photography, and working with ESRI ArcView or equivalent software.
- Experience applying specifications, standards, codes, acts and regulations.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access) or equivalent software applications.
- Strong written communication skills with experience preparing technical reports for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize workloads, multi-task, and work on concurrent assignments with strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholder and resolve conflict.
