Job Description
AECOM is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Structural Engineer to support the design and construction of infrastructure within the Buildings + Places business line. This opportunity is based out of our Halifax, Nova Scotia office, with opportunities for hybrid work available.
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects.
Major Responsibilities:
Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of contract documents package.
Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
Prepares technical specification sections.
Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Assists structural engineering team with mentoring junior and intermediate engineering staff.
Assists team manager with prioritizing workload and projects for CADD and Revit production technicians and technologists.
Liaises with other discipline leads to meet client performance objectives in an optimized and value added manner.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in good standing (or eligibility to obtain)
- Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in the structural design of buildings, facilities, and/or infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated experience in structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, and foundation systems
- Proficiency with structural design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, or similar) and drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit)
- Working knowledge of applicable Canadian codes and standards (e.g., NBCC, CSA standards)
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Reliability and/or Secret security clearance within a reasonable timeframe
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering with ten (10)+ years of relevant experience
- Proven experience leading structural design on complex or large-scale projects
- Experience in marine and coastal structures (e.g., jetties, wharves, piers)
- Experience with pile foundations, concrete decks, and heavy civil infrastructure
- Experience in saltwater or harsh environmental conditions
- Familiarity with condition assessments, rehabilitation, and retrofit of existing structures
- Experience with construction support services, including site reviews and inspections
- Project management experience (budgeting, scheduling, client coordination)
- Experience working on federal or government projects
- Strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical deliverables
