Job description
We are seeking a highly collaborative Senior UX Designer for a 9-month contract in Toronto. This role follows a robust four-phase delivery methodology—Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live—to ensure digital products are user-centered, accessible, and high-performing. You will act as the design lead within a balanced agile team, working one iteration ahead of developers to validate user stories and translate complex business goals into intuitive, mobile-first responsive solutions.

Duration: 9-month contract with potential for extension
Location: Toronto, Ontario (Hybrid)

Rate: $520.12-$556.28/hr

Advantages
Balanced Team Model: Collaborate closely with product owners and developers in a mature Agile (Scrum) environment.

Strategic Design: Move beyond "making it pretty" to solving foundational business problems and defining high-level strategy.

Professional Longevity: 9-month initial term with a strong likelihood of extension based on project milestones.

Responsibilities
1. Discovery: Understanding the Problem
Facilitation: Lead project kick-offs to produce Business Model Canvases, Stakeholder Maps, and Problem Statements.

User Research: Design and execute interview scripts, topic maps, and synthesis reports to define user personas and "5 Whys."

Service Blueprinting: Create Technical Service Blueprints that map the entire service delivery process, including back-end support systems.

2. Alpha: Experimentation & Prototyping
Design Sprints: Optionally lead 5-day Design Sprints to answer critical business questions through rapid prototyping.

Prototyping: Build "clickable" high-fidelity prototypes to test multiple solution hypotheses.

Validation: Conduct usability testing sessions and iterate designs based on research findings to define the final vision for the Beta phase.

3. Beta: Building the MVP
Agile Integration: Participate in Scrum ceremonies (Stand-ups, Planning, Retrospectives) and manage the design backlog.

Iteration: Create and validate user stories, conduct sketching workshops, and refine designs based on ongoing user interviews.

Accessibility: Perform regular accessibility compliance testing (AODA/WCAG) within every iteration to ensure an inclusive product.

4. Live: Continuous Improvement
Evolution: Monitor live builds through usage analytics and user behavior patterns to measure KPIs.

Optimization: Continue regular usability testing and accessibility audits to refine the service post-launch.

Qualifications
Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience participating in complex, large-scale agile projects.

UX Mastery: Extensive expertise in mobile-first and responsive design best practices.

Tooling Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, InVision, Axure, and Zeplin.

Technical Plus: Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (React, Angular, or Node.js) is a significant asset.

Education: Degree or diploma in Graphic Design; certifications in Usability, HCI, or Technical Writing are highly preferred.

Research Skills: Proven ability to facilitate user research, interview synthesis, and usability testing to produce actionable findings reports.

Communication: Strong mediation and negotiation skills to align business teams, technical leads, and product owners.

Summary
If you are a design leader who thrives on validating hypotheses through research and delivering elegant solutions for complex user needs, we encourage you to apply today!
