Company Overview

Randstad is actively partnering with a prominent, large-scale custom fabrication and heavy industrial repair shop located directly in Nisku, Alberta. We are currently recruiting a dedicated, skilled, and safety-focused Carbon Arc Gouger to join a fast-paced structural team on a extended long-term basis.

This physically demanding position requires high endurance and focus, as you will be operating within confined space setups routinely. You will work on heavy rig components, massive structural modules, and heavy equipment, prepping and back-gouging joints for our welding crews. If you are a specialized trade professional who thrives in structural steel shops, excels in tight quarters, and takes pride in quality work, apply today.

Advantages
Competitive Pay: $45.00/hour with guaranteed, regular direct-deposit pay schedules handled directly by Randstad.

Consistent Work Schedule: 4-day workweek (Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM)—enjoy an extended 3-day weekend every single week!

Optional Health Coverage: Opportunity to enroll in Randstad’s extended health, dental, and vision benefit plans.

Job Security: Ongoing, steady contract placement with an established, industry-leading manufacturing plant.

Team Perks: Enjoy team appreciation events, catered lunches, and monthly performance rewards via our recognition initiatives.

Safety Commitment: Comprehensive HSE standards, specialized continuous airflow systems, and proper PPE provided for restricted spaces.

Responsibilities
Perform extensive air carbon arc gouging, working safely inside designated restricted areas throughout scheduled shifts.

Focus on prepping thick plate steel components to prepare joints for high-integrity, full-penetration welds.

Execute precise arc gouging for heavy rig overhauls and structural rebuilds, removing damaged welds or worn material efficiently.

Complete back-gouging procedures down to clean base metal, following exact engineering specs for high-stress structural joints.

Coordinate closely with dedicated safety attendants to ensure all site-specific safety guidelines are fully maintained.

Perform basic preventive maintenance on arc equipment (leads, torches, air lines) and maintain clean work zones in tight spaces.

Utilize overhead cranes and standard rigging setups as needed to safely maneuver, align, and turn massive steel parts.

Qualifications
Valid Journeyman Welder ticket OR 5+ years of specialized air carbon arc gouging work in heavy industry.

High comfort level operating inside tight, enclosed work areas—this job involves daily restricted-space operations.

Active safety tickets: Confined Space Entry (Required), WHMIS 2015, and Standard First Aid with CPR.

Strong background working with thick structural plate, drill rig overhauls, and heavy equipment modifications.

Overhead Crane Operator and Overhead Rigging tickets are highly desirable assets for this shop role.

Physical stamina to manage demanding work conditions, long periods of kneeling or stooping, and high-heat environments.

Must successfully clear standard pre-employment site access requirements, including physical and D&A tests.

Reliable personal transportation to the Nisku industrial park is required for daily operational shifts.

Summary
