Job description
Carbon Arc Gouger

Location: Nisku, AB
Job Type: Long-Term Contract (via Randstad)
Wage: $45.00/hour
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (4x10s)

Overview:
Randstad is partnering with a premier, large-scale custom manufacturing and heavy industrial repair facility located in the heart of Nisku, Alberta. We are currently seeking a highly resilient, skilled, and safety-conscious Carbon Arc Gouger to join their busy fabrication team on a long-term basis.

This specific role requires extreme mental and physical stamina, as you will be gouging inside confined spaces all day, every day. You will be working heavily on rig components, large-scale modules, and heavy equipment, prepping and back-gouging joints for the welding team. If you are a specialized tradesperson who thrives in heavy-steel environments, has no problem with confined spaces, and takes pride in your craftsmanship, we want to hear from you.

Advantages
Top-Tier Compensation: $45.00/hour, with a reliable weekly pay schedule directly through Randstad.

Excellent Work-Life Balance: 4-day work week (Monday to Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM)—enjoy a 3-day weekend every week!

Flexible Coverage: Opportunity to buy into Randstad’s comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits program.

Long-Term Stability: Ongoing, long-term placement at a state-of-the-art, major manufacturing outfit.

Great Perks & Recognition: Enjoy regular staff BBQs and a chance to earn monthly incentives through our "Employee of the Month" program.

Safety-First Culture: Rigorous HSE protocols, top-tier ventilation systems, and specialized PPE provisions for confined space work.

Responsibilities
Perform continuous air carbon arc gouging, working inside confined spaces for the full duration of your daily shifts.

Focus heavily on prepping heavy plate steel for high-quality, full-penetration welding.

Execute precision gouging for heavy rig repair and structural retrofitting, carefully removing defective welds or old metal to facilitate upgrades and refurbishment.

Accurately back-gouge weld joints to sound metal, ensuring exact specifications are met for high-stress applications.

Work closely with a hole-watch/safety attendant to ensure all confined space protocols are strictly followed at all times.

Perform routine daily maintenance on gouging equipment (cables, stingers, air lines) and ensure a safe, clean workspace inside the confined areas.

Operate overhead cranes and heavy rigging equipment when necessary to move and position large steel components.

Qualifications
Must be a certified Journeyman Welder OR possess 5+ years of dedicated carbon arc gouging experience.

Must have a high tolerance for working in tight, restricted environments—this role requires full-time, daily confined space work.

Valid safety tickets: Confined Space Entry (Mandatory), WHMIS, and Standard First Aid.

Extensive experience working with heavy plate steel, rig repairs, and large structural retrofits.

Overhead Crane and Rigging certification is considered a strong asset.

Ability to endure the intense physical demands of the role, including heavy lifting, crouching/kneeling for extended periods, and working in a loud, spark-heavy environment.

Must be able to pass a standard pre-employment physical and Drug & Alcohol screening.

Reliable transit to the Nisku location is mandatory for this position.

Summary
These high-demand layout roles will be filled very quickly. If you are a dedicated Gouger who thrives on precision measurement and loves working in a rugged, fast-paced fabrication environment, we want to hear from you immediately.
