Job descriptionPrepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Develop financial models, forecasts and performance metrics to support management decision-making. Provide actionable insights to the COO and partners regarding profitability, cost management, and revenue optimization. Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor performance against budget. Identify and explain variances, providing recommendations for corrective action. Oversee the integration and effective use of the firm’s ERP and financial systems. Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting. Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and training to ensure professional growth and strong team performance. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field; CPA designation strongly preferred. Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities. Strong technical expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. Experience in a professional services or legal industry environment is an asset. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Position Overview
The Controller will oversee the firm’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and insightful financial reporting. This role will provide leadership in accounting and finance functions, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to the firm’s long-term vision. The Controller will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and work closely with firm leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and collections, payroll, and trust accounting.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with firm policies and Law Society requirements.
