The individual in this role is a key contact on the External Reporting and Analysis team that delivers our core messaging to Senior Management, the Board of Directors, and ultimately to investors. Keys to success include effective collaboration and communication with all levels of management across the organization, being highly motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to challenge the status quo.
Reporting to the AVP, External Reporting and Analysis, this role is responsible for leading the development and production of our external Earnings News Release, Management’s Discussion & Analysis, Supplementary Financial Information Package, and Annual Information Form. This role will work closely with various business partners to understand key analytical insights, allowing them to dive into complex issues to develop key messaging for external stakeholders and our leadership team. This role will also support the continued digitization of financial information and the transformation of our reporting process through effective deployment of technology.

What will you do:
Accountable for leading the input to and drafting of our external Earnings News Release, Management’s Discussion and Analysis, Supplementary Financial Information Package, and the Annual Information Form, on both a quarterly and annual basis
Provide analytical insights about Sun Life’s results and develop compelling and clear messaging for external consumption, while simplifying complex technical topics
Translate internal business drivers and messages into appropriate external disclosures taking into consideration the needs of external stakeholders including SEC, OSC, OSFI and IFRS requirements
Support the leadership team and other stakeholders to proactively identify, understand, and explain key messages, trends, and variances
Monitor and benchmark key trends, issues, and best practices for public disclosure across our peers in the Financial Services and Insurance industries to continually enhance our external communication
Monitor to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements are being met (including those from IFRS, OSC continuous disclosure requirements and SEC)
Ensure strong internal controls and processes are in place
Lead special projects and strategic initiatives to improve business processes within the reporting cycle or enhancements to our key metrics and narrative
Lead and develop a team of financial professionals with the goal of increasing talent and providing opportunities to grow and acquire additional skill sets
What do you need to succeed:
Professional accounting designation (CPA) with 7+ years of related industry experience
Strong leadership skills with an ability to work across multiple functions and business groups and influence without authority
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to transform complex issues into simple and concise messaging
Strong technical, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail
Experience and knowledge of SEC, OSC, OSFI and IFRS requirements for external disclosures
Collaborative working style with strong interpersonal, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills to partner with employees/leaders at all levels in the organization
Creative and innovative with the ability to recommend and implement improved processes
Proficiency with Wdesk (or other similar external disclosure platform) and SharePoint/Office365 is an asset
