About the opportunity
We’re looking for a skilled Robotics Software Engineer to develop and integrate advanced automation solutions for heavy machinery using C++ and python in ROS 2. You’ll design and deploy software for perception, control, and autonomous navigation, working with real-time systems, sensors, and actuators.
This role involves simulation, testing, and deployment in mining environments, with a focus on safety, scalability, and performance. You'll collaborate across teams, applying DevOps practices and modern software architecture to deliver robust, innovative robotics solutions. This role includes periodic domestic and international travel to customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance software for autonomous and robotic systems used in mining equipment.
- Design and deliver scalable, real-time robotics software integrating C++ with advanced sensors and control systems inside the ROS2 ecosystem.
- Develop algorithms for localization, perception (LiDAR, camera, IMU), and autonomous navigation in complex environments.
- Simulate and test systems to validate performance and functionality.
- Contribute to the development of software architecture and design for robotic platforms.
- Champion DevOps best practices including CI / CD, Docker, and automated deployment.
- Conduct safety risk assessments and ensure software compliance with industry safety standards and regulations.
- Monitor, log, and troubleshoot deployed systems for reliability and performance optimization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineers, product managers, hardware engineers, and field service personnel to define and deliver integrated automation solutions.
- Document software designs, algorithms, APIs, and user-facing materials to support both internal stakeholders and external.
About you
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Robotics Software Engineer with a strong background in C++ development with ROS 2 experience. You will be instrumental in building advanced automation solutions for heavy machinery used in dynamic mining environments. Your expertise in software architecture, real-time systems, and DevOps will drive the development of safe, scalable, and high-performance robotic systems.
You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced setting, bringing together robotics, software engineering, and industry-specific knowledge to create innovative solutions that push the boundaries of heavy equipment automation.
Agencies need not apply.
To be eligible for this role, you must have the right to live and work in Australia. Please note that as part of our recruitment process, you will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment medical.
