Job Overview: Rehab Support Worker / Tutor – University Student Wanted Jason is a man with brain injuries, (from a 1999 pedestrian-automobile accident), and moderate degrees of other disabilities. He is friendly, eager to learn and has a sense of humour. Over the last 19 years, Jason has worked with Therapy Support workers and Tutors including many University students. Jason has a long-term Rehab & Care Program based on Neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to form or reorganize neural connections in response to learning and repeated experience. The Program has eight modules. He has made steady and significant progress in his speech, motor, cognitive and social abilities. He is computer literate and can work on computer-based learning and rehab programs. He lives alone, with support, in his own condo for 13 years. We need a coach / tutor to work with Jason in the following areas: (a) Reading, writing, reasoning and conversation; (b) Physical training in the gym, swimming, basketball and soccer; (c) Social activities such as card games, board games, computer games, and bowling; (d) Music and songs for enjoyment as well as to improve rhythm, movement and coordination; (d) Daily living activities such as organizing, cleaning, shopping. We require the ability to teach with desktop and tablet applications. This is an interesting opportunity for a student aiming to make a career in the Teaching or Health Care professions. The use of technology to help with rehabilitation is a relatively new and important field of health care. You will be working with a small team of part-time therapy support workers and tutors. We follow Provincial COVID-19 rules and guidelines. Our policy is to require each team member to be fully vaccinated as soon as eligible.
