Led by a team of mining executives with operational and development experience and proven success in creating value, Allied Gold aspires to become a mid-tier next generation gold producer in Africa and ultimately a leading senior global gold producer.
Allied Gold is seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Geotechnical Engineering to lead our geotechnical function across all open-pit mining operations. This role will provide technical oversight, governance and support to site-based geotechnical teams while ensuring the highest standards of pit slope design, stability management and geotechnical risk mitigation. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering within large-scale open-pit operations and a proven track record in leadership and corporate-level advisory roles. The successful candidate will be able to meet the criteria to act as a Qualified Person (QP) under NI 43-101 and will be responsible for contributing to technical reports and disclosures.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide corporate-level oversight and technical guidance on geotechnical engineering practices across all open-pit operations, in accordance with the level of study (Scoping, Pre-Feasibility, and Feasibility).
- Take responsibility for the ongoing development and regular updates of geotechnical models, including :
- Structural Model – capturing the geological and structural features that influence slope stability.
- Material Properties Model – defining geomechanical parameters based on laboratory testing and site data.
- Hydrogeological Model – integrating groundwater flow and pore pressure data for accurate slope behavior prediction.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve geotechnical standards, guidelines, and governance frameworks.
- Review and endorse pit slope designs, stability assessments, ground control strategies and risk management plans.
- Lead or participate in geotechnical reviews, audits and independent technical assessments.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) to site geotechnical teams, providing mentorship and support on complex technical issues.
- Collaborate with Mine Planning, Operations and HSE teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into operational and long-term plans.
- Oversee the implementation and analysis of monitoring systems (e.g., radar, prisms, piezometers) to ensure early detection of geotechnical hazards.
- Report regularly to Corporate Technical Services and Executive Management on geotechnical performance, risks and mitigation strategies.
- Manage external consultants and ensure alignment with internal standards and project requirements.
- Contribute to the development of capital and sustaining projects from a geotechnical perspective, including feasibility studies and due diligence reviews.
- Act as a Qualified Person (QP) under NI 43-101 for the review and sign-off of technical disclosures, including geotechnical parameters to be used for Mineral Reserve estimates.
