Job Overview
This role supports New Nuclear Development initiatives and involves managing assigned projects or project packages through all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation to closeout, in accordance with established Project Management governance. Occasional travel to other sites (~10%) may be required.
The position applies approved project management processes to control scope, schedule, cost, risk, change, communications, and reporting, ensuring delivery of project objectives within safety, quality, budget, and schedule targets. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing project charters, business cases, estimates, schedules, risk and execution plans, and coordinating phase-gate approvals.
The role involves coordinating design, procurement, construction, and contract activities; leading meetings with internal and external stakeholders; monitoring performance; managing changes and variances; and resolving project issues. It also ensures regulatory compliance, stakeholder communication, contract management, and proper project documentation through turnover and closeout.
The incumbent maintains awareness of corporate procedures, industry best practices, and emerging technologies, provides guidance to cross-functional teams, and may supervise work as required.
Qualifications
- Experience with industrial developments and or writing a business case is an asset.
- Requires the following experience, knowledge and abilities :
- Project management, specifically, experience in developing project requirements and plans, preparing cost estimates, participating in request for proposal and contract bidding and award processes, managing projects in execution phase, and managing project closeout.
- Managing conflicting priorities of scope, schedule, cost and quality.
- Familiarity with equipment and processes in generating station or similar heavy industry.
- Solving problems and providing guidance.
- Knowledge of cost accounting and forecasting as it relates to project management.
- Knowledge of commercial contracting methods, contract management, construction methods, codes and standards, quality assurance and health and safety.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements.
- Experience and knowledge related to environmental protection and associated concerns.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in managing projects of increasing complexity is considered a necessary requirement. Project complexity would normally be defined by multiple-contract, multiple stakeholder projects with schedule constraints. A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
- Requires a knowledge of project management principles, specifically the 5 primary project phases (Identification, Initiation, Definition, Execution, Closeout).
- Requires a knowledge of economics and business principles to provide project cost estimates and forecasts.
- This level of knowledge is normally acquired by successful completion of a 4-year university degree in an appropriate area plus completion of post-secondary courses in project management and business economics as it relates to project and asset management or by having the equivalent level of education.
