Job description
Position description

Mount Allison University acknowledges, honours, and respects that the land named Sackville, NB is part of the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People who are the historic inhabitants, custodians, and dwellers on the land where our University is built and confirms its commitment to strengthening relationships with all Indigenous peoples.

Mount Allison University is committed to diversity and inclusiveness. We encourage applications from members of equity-deserving groups, including but not limited to racialized individuals, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of all sexual and gender identities. We seek candidates with qualifications and knowledge to contribute to the further diversification of our campus community.

The Department of Biology at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month sessional (non-tenure track and non-continuing) position for the period August 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, subject to budgetary approval. We are looking for someone to teach our first-year cell biology course (BIOL 1501), plus three upper year courses in their area of expertise. Ideally this would include courses in areas such as marine biology or ecology, genetics, or applied fields such as ecotoxicology. However, choice of upper year classes is flexible and will be assigned to fit the successful candidate’s interests. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. by the time of appointment, have a strong commitment to, and experience in, undergraduate teaching, and be strongly committed to equity, diversity, and inclusivity in post-secondary institutions.

The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental activities and will have the opportunity to supervise undergraduate research students if they so desire (student research supervision is not a job requirement).

Applications should include:

A cover letter summarizing your qualifications for the position, and confirming eligibility to legally work in Canada (e.g. Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, work permit) (max 1.5 page)

A curriculum vitae

A 1–2-page statement of teaching philosophy and experience, plus evidence of teaching effectiveness

A list of courses you would be comfortable teaching

A statement of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusivity in post-secondary institutions, especially as related to your teaching practice (max 0.5 page)

Names and contact information for three referees.

Applications should be submitted through Academic Jobs Online using this link: . Emailed applications will not be accepted.

Questions may be directed to the chair of the search committee:
