Traffic & Customs Specialist
The opportunity
The Traffic & Customs Specialist's primary day to day operational contact for all carriers and third parties providing domestic and cross border transportation and related logistics service for Teva Canada.
Maintain cross-department collaboration and relationships with carriers and Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) through regular consultation and business review meetings.
Manage carrier activities, analyze and report on freight spend to ensure business objectives are supported. Actively work with internal stakeholders on understanding current processes, proposing enhancements and agreeing on expected deliverables
How you’ll spend your day
- Work closely with 3rd party vendors, Purchasing Department, manufacturing facilities (internal and external) and Production Planning Department, to optimize mode of transport for inbound shipments from a cost and efficiency perspective
- Proactively work with stakeholders to ensure carrier capacity is available to support the operational demand for the successful execution of all shipments including inbound, outbound, Inter-plant and ad-hoc requests.
- Investigate domestic and cross border transportation issues such as delays, trailer set points, non-compliances, etc.; and record / communicate findings to appropriate carrier / Teva personnel.
- File and manage domestic and cross border freight claims according to Global Corporate SOPs.
- Annual review of dangerous goods shipping activities, covering cross border and domestic movements.
- Ensure that all contracts / agreements with carriers and applicable LSPs are current, with any updates communicated to appropriate stakeholders (i.
e. : Canadian and US Supply Chain teams, Global Procurement, Global Logistics, freight payment service providers, etc.).
- Monitor carrier performance and compliance. Assist with the development and maintenance of Key Performance Indicators and report any deficiencies or negative trend as well as bring ideas and possible scenarios to correct such discrepancies to Senior Management
- Conduct Quarterly Business Review (QBR) meetings with service providers, including inviting guest from other business units to offer different perspectives and input
- Maintenance of Freight Payment / Audit service provider to ensure that all activity is captured, updating rates as needed.
- Responsible for review and approval of transportation invoices for payment. Support department and company budget metrics by providing detailed spend analytics and trends making use of metrics and dashboards
- Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders to obtain freight quotations to aid pricing negotiation with vendors
- Other duties as required and assigned
Your experience and qualifications
- Required : College Diploma in related disciplines such as Supply chain, Logistics, Operations, Engineering or related field
- Preferred : Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Engineering or related field.
- CIFFA Certificate and / or Certified Customs Specialist Designation (CCS)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with demonstrated knowledge of transportation, customs and trade compliance
- Intermediate to Advance Microsoft Applications especially Microsoft Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables) and Access (e.g. Macros, Queries, Reporting) skills.
- Proficiency in TMS, SAP and other industry applications
- Strong Mathematical and Analytical skills
- Experience in Project Management, and RFP / RFQ’s an asset.
- WMS, SAP, Inventory systems, TMS
- This position requires an understanding of pharmaceutical operations
- Transport Canada Regulations, both domestic & international shipments
