Role : Senior Employee Relations Specialist

Location : Mississauga, ON

Duration : 3 Months

Duties : As the Senior Employee Relations Specialist, you will provide direction for the communication and compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.

Responsibilities : Monitor company compliance with wage and hour laws, child labor laws, Immigration Reform and Control Act, and ADA requirements Provide overall guidance to employees on the use and administration of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Provide training and consulting services to company management for supervisor referrals to EAP including trauma response / crisis intervention situations.

Manage the general direction of employee relations needs assessment activities, including employee relations case handling, recognition programs, complaint resolution activities, personnel policies and practices, etc.

Develop and manage employee communications instruments and complaint resolution processes and identify opportunities where the use of alternative dispute resolution processes may be appropriate.

  • Provide guidance and counsel to company management on employee relations issues including : interpretation of company policies, performance counseling and documentation;
  • discipline and discharge matters; outplacement and severance arrangements; responding to discrimination complaints; sexual harassment investigations and complaint resolution;

wrongful discharge, pre-employment screening, etc. Coordinate the resolution of formal charges with Legal Department and outside counsel, as needed.

Manage the general direction of employee relations needs assessment activities, including employee relations case handling, recognition programs, complaint resolution activities, personnel policies and practices, etc.

Qualifications : Undergraduate degree in Labor Relations or HR. Prior experience in HR or related roles. Experience with union laws and processes. Skills : -

  • Five years of experience in HR position with 2 years directly in employee relations (or in an increasingly responsible leadership position) preferred
  • Availability to work MST or PST hours preferred
  • HR certification preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment law

Education : -

Post-secondary degree / diploma or bachelor’s degree and / or 5+ years of experience
