- Leads an assigned team of clinical staff (RN, RPN, PSW) and is responsible for the provision of resident care and ensuring a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors
- Will assess, plan and make decisions for the purpose of resolving clinical and team issues
- Supports consultation with internal / external stakeholders, on all aspects of services to residents, and strives to ensure excellence in all aspects of service delivery on both a strategic and operational level
- Coordinates, directs and monitors the effectiveness of all operational activities within their assigned portfolio, including adherence to relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
- Participates in recruitment / orientation, employee and labour relations, occupational and non-occupational injury / illness, performance management, training and education
- Oversees clinical care processes to ensure that care delivery is in accordance with resident’s individualized plan of care and reflects best practice
- Promotes and ensures standards of practice are achieved and evaluated
- Ensures adherence to practices set out in the homes’ required programs
- Leads a required clinical program such as Falls Prevention, Skin & Wound Care, Continence & Bowel Management, Pain Management & Palliative Care, Responsive Behaviours, Prevention of Abuse, Medication Management or Restorative Care
- Contributes to the development of job routines for nursing personnel to ensure excellence in the provision of care and promotion of workplace satisfaction
- Responds promptly to concerns of residents, family members, team members and others to mediate a satisfactory response
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications include but are not limited to :
- B.Sc.N Degree required
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Membership with Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario required
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS) Level C required
- Minimum of three (3) years related nursing experience required
- Two (2) years supervisory experience in a LTCH setting required, including labour and employee relations experience
- Excellent organizational, communication, planning and time management skills required
- Masters’ Degree in Health Discipline preferred
- Certificate in Gerontological nursing preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Software, Point Click Care (PCC), MDS, RMR and budgeting software preferred
- Previous ADOC or DOC experience an asset
- Experience in program planning, development, implementation and evaluation an asset
- Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, decision-making and problem-resolution skills
- Demonstrated expertise in coaching and building capacity with individuals and teams
- Demonstrated expertise in responsive behaviour management, PIECES or equivalent; crisis intervention and Dementia care an asset
