Underwriter, Professional Lines
The Opportunity :
We are looking for a driven, results-oriented, team player to join us. This is a great opportunity to work alongside industry experts, develop client relationships, work as part of a dynamic and successful team and grow a book of business to support our ambitious growth goals.
This role supports our Toronto based Professional Lines team. We are currently hybrid with the expectation all employees can come into our Downtown Toronto office.
Job Responsibilities :
Underwriting : Analyzing Risk and Placing Business
- renewal retention through strong service, negotiation, and education
- and maintain knowledge and understanding of company operations, procedures, and underwriting guidelines.
- knowledge of carriers’ underwriting guidelines
- adequate underwriting information for quoting, binding, and issuing policies.
- coverage requirements, prices, and conditions
- prices, terms, and conditions.
- quality submissions to markets.
- consultation to brokers regarding differences between quotes and coverages.
- all renewal business is reviewed and quoted appropriately.
- all files are documented properly to avoid potential E&O’s
- carrier relationships.
- abreast of underwriting practices and maintain licenses and certifications.
Business Development & Client Services
- Develop broker connections by networking to identify new clients and maintaining relationships through targeted efforts.
- Conduct broker visits to build relationships and advertise Burns & Wilcox offerings.
- Build and develop market relationships.
- Ensure prompt and courteous service is provided to all brokers.
- Develop strategies to differentiate Burns & Wilcox from our competitors.
- Utilize other Burns & Wilcox offices via referrals to place business
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2 years of full time underwriting experience, MGA experience preferred
- Strong sales and marketing skills a must, business acumen, interest in continued education and professional development
- CIP, CRM, FCIP or comparable designations preferred
