Reporting to the Director,
Teaching and Learning Innovation, the Instructional Technologist is responsible for guiding faculty in the design, development, and integration of multimedia elements as part of the Sheridan Online Initiative.
This role requires a unique blend of creativity, technical proficiency, and an understanding of instructional design principles to assist and support faculty in creating engaging learning experiences.
Working closely with instructional designers, the incumbent plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning through innovative multimedia solutions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Working with an instructional designer to design and develop learning objects;
- Working with faculty to creating high-quality multimedia content that aligns with learning objectives;
- Collaboratively develop script, editing videos and audio files for integration into learning experiences;
- Creating animations and developing interactive graphic elements.
- Creating storyboards and other design assets for use within an agile project environment;
- Providing training and support to faculty on creating and integrating multimedia content into their courses;
- Developing guidelines, best practices, and resources for multimedia development;
- Providing expert advice on the effective use of multimedia in teaching and learning;
- Managing multimedia projects from conception through to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards;
- Communicating with partners to ensure projects are on track and according to plan;
- Meeting regularly with the project team to ensure deadlines and deliverable are according to plan;
- Assessing and mitigating risk proactively and ensuring clear communication with supervisors;
- Conducting testing and quality assurance of multimedia elements to ensure compatibility with learning management systems (LMS) and AODA compliant.
- Ensuring all assets are of the highest design standards;
- Creating and implementing data models that support ongoing quality course design;
- Maintaining and expanding technical knowledge in multimedia software and tools, including video editing software, animation tools, and graphic design software using AI;
- Guide faculty on the use of Artificial Intelligence for course design and course development;
- Staying abreast of the latest trends and advancements in media technology;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

You have excellent written and verbal communication skills , and ability to present to diverse audiences and communities.
You have sound understanding of project management principles and tools and have the ability to multi-task, prioritize, balance and manage multiple complex and competing demands.
The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements :
- Minimum of a Post-Graduate Degree (e.g. Master’s) in Instructional Technology or related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in guiding faculty in course development technologies, collaborating with faculty in design and development of course assets at a program level using a variety of technologies including the LMS and AI (equivalencies to be considered);
- Experience with designing and collecting data that informs design and development decision and course quality Data / Learning Analytics;
- Experience with video & audio production and immersive technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, analytical / critical thinking with the ability to prioritize projects and requests;
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently with an agile mindset.
