Department : Nursing Services Shoreham Village
Responsible To : Manager, Nursing Services
Qualifications :
- Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent from a recognized school of Physiotherapy
- Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Nova Scotia
- One to two years of relevant work experience
- Long Term Care experience is considered an asset
- Complex geriatric management experience considered an asset
- Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapy and eligibility for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
- Knowledge of the following : Medical Terminology, Falls Prevention Methods / Risk Management Procedures, Proper Body Mechanics, Therapy and Counselling, Principles of geriatric restorative care, Customer and Personal Service, Neurologic, orthopedic, cardio and respiratory treatment
- Must have excellent Communication, interpersonal, problem solving and time management and judgement and decision making skills
Major Responsibilities :
- Assesses resident needs in a physiotherapy context (e.g. mobility equipment, assistance, restorative potentials)
- Provides one on one therapeutic physiotherapy treatment to residents
- Designs physiotherapy treatment programs for Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) to implement / carry out and monitors resident progress in these programs
- Collaborates with nursing team to plan interventions for residents
- Instructs and educates internal stakeholders (e.g. mobility, equipment, care needs)
- Maintains physiotherapy gym (e.g. equipment, schedules, files, funding requests)

Hours of Work : 24 hours Bi-weekly (8-hour shifts)
