Our team at Munich Re is responsible for rethinking and reshaping the way we look at our core business and we are seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist to join our team.

As a member of our Data and BI team you will be working on data delivery, transformation, and BI analytics for Munich Re Life and Health by working collaboratively across a variety of technical and business teams, and participating in requirements gathering sessions with the business stakeholders.

This role requires an energetic and forward thinking individual who appreciates the value of data as an asset, has demonstrable expertise in data warehouse and reporting systems development, and can significantly contribute to the evolution of our Business Intelligence practice through collaboration with teams throughout the organization.

The successful candidate has solid experience using SQL server, SSRS, SSAS, and Power BI and has documented, designed, built, and tested several analytics infrastructures, dashboards, and reports to meet business requirements.

The role will be based out of our downtown Toronto office.

Your Role :

  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive environment;
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert who directly supports the Lines of Business;
  • Build for the future and ideate on BI capabilities that contribute to our competitive advantage;
  • Work with other BI developers, data engineers, data ingestion specialists, and experts across the company to consolidate methods and tool standards where practical;
  • Develop SSRS reports and Power BI dashboard reports that meet business requirements;
  • Create documented test plans and work collaboratively with peers to ensure testing completion;
  • Perform data profiling activities to understand complex data relationships, create visualizations, and measure the quality of the data;
  • Design and develop complex queries, views, and stored procedures per requirements;
  • Develop cubes and schema to support data warehousing and self-serve ad-hoc queries;
  • Assist in sourcing and aggregating data for business information purposes;
  • Contribute to the development of the BI Centre of Excellence by supporting process standardization and best practice identification and implementation;
  • Ensure that all source code is properly versioned, vaulted, managed, and appropriately documented through Dev Ops / TFS;
  • Develop and author technical documentation for Business Intelligence projects;
  • Maintain knowledge currency on the latest industry standards, BI tools, and capabilities;
  • Create complex and comprehensive BI reporting packages and dashboards utilizing data infrastructure, localized datamarts, and external data sources;
  • Translate functional and technical requirements into detailed design and robust deliverables;
  • Responsible for sourcing and provisioning data in the data warehouse from on premise or cloud sources;
  • Liaise with business stakeholders in gathering data requirement for projects.

Key Capabilites :

  • Able to utilize oral, written, and presentation skills as necessary to enable adoption of data solution across technical and business audiences;
  • Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express technical concepts in terms understandable by the business, and requirements and implications in terms understandable to fellow technical experts;
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and conflict management skills; must be able to work effectively in a small collaborative team;
  • Strong time and project management skills with the ability to adapt to changing prioritizations.

Your Profile :

  • Bachelor’s degree in data, computer science, information technology, or related discipline;
  • 5+ yrs SQL Server skills including SQL objects development, performance tuning, data analysis, and integration;
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence stack (SSRS, SSAS, Power BI);
  • 3+ years of experience in developing self-service models and data analytics using Power BI service;
  • Insurance or Reinsurance industry experience is an asset.
