Reporting to the VP, Accounting and External Reporting, the Director, Financial Reporting plays a key role in the timely and accurate preparation of the Company’s monthly financial statements and quarterly financial reports.
This role supports Site finance teams across multiple jurisdictions on operational and complex accounting matters and provides technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
Additionally, the role will play a key part in the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and ESTMA reporting, focusing on financial metrics and ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities :
Financial Reporting :
- Leads the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) in compliance with regulatory standards
- Assists in the preparation and review quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and notes in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Prepares various quarterly reports for the Board of Directors and other senior executives
- Partnering with the Corporate Controller, coordinates activities with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits
- Ensures accuracy and consistency in financial reporting across all operating sites
- Documents and ensures compliance with SOX controls related to the internal and external financial reporting for the position’s area of responsibility.
Identifies areas for improvement and assists in the design and documentation of new controls or modification of existing controls.
Support to Site Finance Teams :
Manages the review of operating site monthly financial packages to ensure compliance with IFRS; performs variance analysis to assess performance and assist in decision making.
Provides feedback to operating sites to assist with improving reporting quality and processes.
- Acts as a key resource and advisor to site finance teams on accounting issues, providing training and guidance as needed
- Assists site teams in understanding and implementing new accounting standards and policies
- Works closely with Site teams to resolve complex accounting issues and ensure consistent application of accounting policies across all operations
Technical Accounting & Policy :
- Researches, analyzes and drafts technical accounting memos and documentation to support the company’s accounting positions and policy decisions
- Develops and implements standardized accounting policies and procedures across all jurisdictions to ensure uniformity and compliance
ESG and ESTMA Reporting :
- Collaborate with ESG and finance teams to collect, analyze, and report financial metrics related to ESG initiatives and for the purposes of ESTMA reporting
- Working with IT and Site finance teams, develops processes and controls to track and report ESG and ESTMA related financial data, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Continuous Improvement :
- Leads initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial reporting process, including the adoption of new technologies and automation tools
- Stays abreast of industry developments, trends and best practices in financial reporting, technical accounting and ESG disclosure
Experience, Skills & Education :
- University degree in Accounting or other business-related field, CPA, CA designation required
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience, preferably with a high-growth, multi-jurisdictional public company or a Big 4 accounting firm
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience
- Experience in the mining or natural resources industry is highly desirable
- Superior level knowledge and understanding of IFRS and public company accounting requirements; strong understanding of SOX legislation and internal controls over financial reporting, including PCAOB requirements
- Experience with OneStream and SAP is desirable
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and research skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly explain complex accounting issues to key stakeholders and decision makers
- Attention to detail, with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent Excel skills; expertise with financial systems and report writing; experience in accounting system implementations is an asset
- A self-starter and team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build partnerships across the organization and motivate teams when working with all business units and operations
- Willingness to travel to company sites as needed
- High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity in financial reporting
The salary range for this position is from $$175,000.00 to $220,000.00.
