The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital and one of the world’s leading research centres in its field.

CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is a Pan America health Organization / World Health Organization Collaborating Centre.

The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Geriatric Psychiatry Division at CAMH are seeking to recruit the Peter and Shelagh Godsoe Chair in Late-Life Mental Health &

Chief, Geriatric Psychiatry Division. The successful candidate must be eligible for full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto, with preference given to those at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Effective start date is July 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter.

The ideal candidate will hold the Peter and Shelagh Godsoe Chair in Late-Life Mental Health , which focuses on developing research collaboration in the field of late-life mental health.

The Godsoe Chair will be an opportunity to expand CAMH’s collaborative research in late-life mental health and to foster the next generation early career scientists in this field.

The ideal candidate will report to the CAMH Vice-President, Research in their Godsoe Chair role.

In the Chief of the Geriatric Psychiatry Division role, the ideal candidate will report to the CAMH Chief Medical Officer and be a valued member of the CAMH’s senior medical leadership team.

The candidate will play a key strategic and operational leadership role in advancing and supporting CAMH’s vision for advancing late life mental health care.

This will include recruitment of academic and clinical geriatric psychiatrists and neurologists. In addition, the Chief of the Geriatric Psychiatry Division will be instrumental to the growth of CAMH’s education mandate in late-life mental health spanning rotations for medical students, general psychiatry residents, subspecialty residents and fellows in Geriatric Psychiatry.

Moreover, the ideal candidate will advance the growth of CAMH’s public and healthcare professional continuing education in late-life mental health to foster knowledge mobilization and education.

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to excellence in clinical care, teaching and research and to recruiting and developing the next generation of clinicians, teachers, educators and researchers.

The candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in complex organizations. The successful candidate will lead a Division with significant existing resources, including internal and external funding.

The Division Chief will be a key member of both the clinical and academic leadership teams at CAMH (including Medical Advisory Committee and CAMH Chief Council), working collaboratively to ensure the successful integration of clinical care, teaching and research into all aspects of the organization and across clinical teams.

The candidate will represent CAMH at local, provincial, and national tables on all matters related to late life mental, neurocognitive or adult neurodevelopmental disorders and work collaboratively with other organizations in the greater Toronto region and Ontario.

In addition, the Division Chief will have an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the development of a new research institute that will have a significant focus on late-life mental health.

The candidate must hold a Medical Degree and be certified (or eligible for certification) in Geriatric Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The candidate should be an academic geriatric psychiatrist with exceptional leadership skills and an extensive academic record in the field of late-life disorders.

Remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.

With a dedicated staff of more than 4,000 physicians, clinicians, researchers, educators and support staff, CAMH offers outstanding clinical care to more than 37,000 patients each year.

The organization conducts ground-breaking research, provides expert training to health care professionals and scientists, develops innovative health promotion and prevention strategies, and advocates on public policy issues at all levels of government.

The Geriatric Psychiatry Division supports inpatient, outpatient, and outreach services within the Complex Care and Recovery (CCR) Program for the spectrum of late-life mental health and neurocognitive disorders, with over 20 psychiatrists, neurologists, and other care providers.

The CCR Program includes 48 inpatient beds with a focus on acute stabilization of symptoms and active treatment approaches integrating mental health and addictions with geriatric perspectives.

The outpatient Geriatric Psychiatry services serves greater than 2500 patients and includes services focused on dementia care.

Several outpatient clinical are part of the portfolio, from a Memory Clinic, to a Late-Life Mood and Anxiety Clinic, to a Late-Life Schizophrenia Clinic, to name a few.
