In your role as Sous Chef WLSC, Corporate with The North West Company (NWC), you will manage the WLSC Cafeteria activity according to established processes and based on projected and unforeseen needs.
Deliver the right selection of food offerings to maintain and increase sales. Support and develop direct reports.

Your Role :
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors to provide fresh, best quality food at the best value for our guests;
- Maintain cleanliness, health, and safety standards to the satisfaction of Manitoba Health Inspectors and the Executive Chef.
- Ensures all external inspections have a compliance plan created and executed while advising the Chef and building Maintenance Manager of any required repairs;
- Prepare and develop menu items consistently to the standards set by or agreed upon by the Executive Chef while ensuring direct reports do the same.
- Properly rotates daily specials and soup of the day. Reviews and updates the cafeteria’s menu twice a year;
- Build capable team that supports the business and services being offered. Holds staff accountable to expectations while being quick to coach and take corrective action when needed;
- Develop and maintain customer service through pleasant interactions, development of value added services, and being receptive to customer feedback ;
- Maintain an adequate knowledge of operations at the head office in order to assume a leadership role when filling in during vacations or high volume periods;
- Handle cash and take responsibility for daily deposits and sales tracking, actively tracing errors and mistakes. Develops projections based on historical data;
- Order supplies to provide adequate stock of food, paper goods, and chemicals are on hand to supply our customers and maintain work space without creating waste;
- Accurately develop and cost recipes, maintain a menu wide Food Cost Percentage and manage expenses according to the annual budget.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Must possess a High School diploma and a minimum of one year of cooking experience, or enrolled in a recognized culinary program;
- Must possess a minimum of 4 years full time cooking experience with at least 1 year in a Sous Chef or higher position;
- Extensive knowledge of food styles and trends;
- Demonstrated experience in the creation of daily specials;
- Experience working a cash register;
- Demonstrated experience with employee supervision;
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to provide exceptional customer service to all levels of the organization and;
- Flexibility to work at different hours as needed.
