SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Reporting to the Manager, Hydrology and Hydraulics this position is responsible for providing support in developing and implementing programs and projects that fulfil the Authority’s obligations and objectives in floodplain regulation, flood risk assessment, flood emergency preparedness, and sustainable management of water levels and flows.

This position supports in the estimation of the model input parameters to develop hydrologic and hydraulic models, generation of base maps, flood hazard & flood risk maps from the updated hydrology & hydraulic models especially in urban creeks, support in the development of on-line portal to share models, maps and metadata with public, municipal partners, and various stakeholders of the watershed.

Responsible for generation of maps, figures & review of background reports and GIS data layers to extract required information for setting up hydrology models such as land use, drainage pattern, SWM pond location, type, stage storage discharge curve, drainage area, imperiousness and method used in the report.

This position is one of the main contributors in assisting with maintaining existing on-line portal & GIS database of the hydraulic structures, base maps, LiDAR, flood hazard and flood risk maps.

It also participates as a flood duty officer, and, if required, participates in the Emergency Management System during a flood event, all of which support the flood forecasting and warning program, another core mandate of CVC.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT

  • Degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in Water Resources Engineering with familiarity in GIS applications.
  • Completed courses in water resources including hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management and water management.
  • Experience in any of the following software would be an asset : ArcGIS, Global Mapper, AutoCAD, and modelling software Visual Otthymo, PCSWMM, HECRAS etc.
  • Ability to work in teams, problem solving, analyzing data, and preparing reports, memos, and other documents.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and work independently, multi-tasking and high attention to details.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS

Perform the following tasks under limited direction or supervision.

  • Support in the development of new / existing hydrology and hydraulic models.
  • Prepare floodplain hazard and flood risk maps, including development of base maps using LiDAR products.
  • Support in the flood risk assessment studies to develop / manage flood risk database.
  • Support in new / ongoing floodplain mapping studies.
  • Contribute to CVC’s long-term program & related database of managing flood risk in the Credit River watershed.
  • Support in updating various GIS data layers, including imperviousness datasets, engineered floodlines, and inundation boundaries and rasters.
  • Assist in preparing project terms of reference and provide support to consultant studies.
  • As needed, provide support to CVC staff in the use and interpretation of LiDAR products
  • Assist in the development of new flood forecasting & warning tools using data collected from the real-time hydrometric network.
  • Participate in flood monitoring and warning by serving as a flood duty officer.
  • Maintain excellent client services (both internally and externally) through application of effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Anticipated Start Date : May 27, 2024 (35 hours / week)

Annual Salary Starting At : $69,155 per year.
