Position Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, Credit Cards and Product, the Director, Product Development will assist the Residential Lending team in assessing market conditions, the competitive landscape, and identifying product opportunities.
Role will also be responsible for conducting market research; generating product requirements; determining specifications, pricing, cost benefit analysis, and time-integrated plans for product introduction, and measurement of success criteria.
Position Responsibilities
Researches and monitors existing client base, regulatory, industry and competitive environments to identify potential new product opportunities.
Works with Credit, Risk, Treasury and Sales to determine feasibility
- Thorough understanding on National, and Regional product opportunities (Demographic differences in credit risk, and lending criteria)
- Works with Sales, Underwriting, Operations, Credit, Compliance, IT and Control groups, and other departments to establish a design, evaluate technology, and develop product strategy :
- Facilitate discussions and requirements gathering with management and senior executives on the development of new product parameters, and works with finance to establish business case.
- Development of business case and financial analysis for new product proposal. Works with Treasury, Credit, and ERM and Finance team to complete feasibility and benefit analysis.
- Prepare and deliver Retail Product and Pricing committee proposal, and ensure all functional groups have reviewed and sign off on operational readiness.
- Set business success factors and work with IT to ensure reporting is available and consolidated into dashboards.
- Evaluate current capacity planning with all relevant teams to ensure operational readiness.
- Manages and coordinates product development projects. Evaluates and works with IT to assess technical feasibility, design optimization, and production readiness.
- Ensures all mortgage lifecycle requirements are operationally ready across all functional team (Operations, UW, Sales, Funding, Credit, Finance, Servicing, Broker relations, etc)
- Coordinate with Business Intelligence on the development of KPI, KRI, and success factor reporting.
- Actively monitor the performance of key business controls to ensure they are being performed as intended, operate as designed and the activities performed are supported with appropriate evidence.
- Facilitate the NIRAP, and Risk and Control Self-Assessment program in order to identify and assess key risks and controls while ensuring that the risk and control register reflects the current risk and control environment.
- Ensure all relevant product documentation has been evaluated and modified (if necessary) to maintain compliance. (Standard Charge Terms, Cost of Borrowing disclosure, etc)
- Assume special projects or assignments as defined by management
- Conduct thorough market research to analyze customer needs, industry trends, and competitor activities. Use this information to inform product development and marketing strategies.
- Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer feedback to identify market opportunities and potential threats.
- Formulate appropriate questions and hypotheses to engage data and analytics teams to provide information required.
- Lead a team of Product Managers in the planning and execution of new product development in support of company products and services.
- Delegate tasks, providing guidance and support, and ensuring effective communication within the team.
- Engage and manage external agency partners and suppliers, as required.
Formal Education
Post secondary degree or diploma required (University degree preferred) in Business, Economics or equivalent
Related Experience
- Minimum 5 years relevant work experience within a regulated Canadian Financial Institution holding progressively senior roles in Product development, Strategy, Treasury or Operational Effectiveness
- Experience in Cognos, Access, Excel, PowerPoint or use of SQL, SAP, SAS an asset
- Experience writing requirements and working with IT an asset
- Solid understanding of product development lifecycle.

- Strong interpersonal relationship building, negotiating and listening skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
