Job Overview

As a Transit Senior Scheduler, you will play a crucial role in the efficient operation of transportation services for dozens of clients worldwide.

You will be responsible for training client-staff and directly applying data-driven decisions in the designing and managing of schedules, routes, and service plans to ensure that passengers can access reliable and convenient transportation options.

You will use craftmanship and cutting-edge technology such as the HASTUS software, by GIRO, to optimize transit services.

You will schedule multiple modes of operations (buses, trains, trams, and sometimes even ferries or subways) with the primary goal of ensuring an efficient and effective transit system meeting the needs of commuters and passengers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule Development : Develop and maintain transit service schedules, taking into account factors like demand, capacity, budget constraints, and resource availability.
  • Route Planning : Design and optimize transit routes to ensure they cover high-demand areas, minimize travel time, and reduce congestion.
  • Timetable Creation : Create and update timetables for different routes and services, ensuring accuracy and adherence to service standards.
  • Service Coordination : Collaborate with our clients’ Planning, Scheduling and Operations teams to coordinate service changes, interruptions, and maintenance activities.
  • Performance Monitoring : Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time performance, ridership numbers, and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Data Analysis : Utilize data analytics and modeling tools to make data-driven decisions for route adjustments, service enhancements and develop supporting reports.
  • Budget Management : Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for transit services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
  • HASTUS Integration : Develop data import and export scripts to integrate HASTUS with upstream and downstream data-systems used by clients.
  • Creation of Reports : Create reports (Crystal, Excel Templates, etc.) as per client's specifications and needs.
  • Work closely with our project managers to meet client expectations and stay aligned in the scope, timeline and budget of the project.
  • Ensure internal tools and project documentation are updated.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree in either of the following : Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences, Operations Research, Transportation Planning or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience preferred. Broad experience within the transit industry an asset.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software and geographic information systems (GIS) an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English & French) both written and spoken required. The majority of customers are English speaking.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and make real-time decisions.
  • Open to occasional travel across Canada and the United States.
  • Customer-oriented, rigorous and keen to excel in his field.
  • Proactivity, autonomy and versatility.

Work Conditions

  • Group insurance fully paid by the employer.
  • Possibility of participating in a RRSP plan after 6 months. The employer contributes the same amount as the employee, up to 5%.
