The Physician Assistant will support emergency department physicians with assigned or delegated tasks assigned by the physician.
The physician maintains primary responsibility for patient care as the principle medical decision-maker. The type of work delegated, and the extent of direct supervision provided to the PA will be dependent on the physician s scope of practice and SHN policy.
Typically tasks may include :
- Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories
- Performing physical examinations and procedures
- Providing counseling on preventive health care
- Performing controlled acts as delegated by a physician
- Performing other tasks within the supervising physician s scope of practice that the physician deems the PA qualified to complete.
Requirements :
- Graduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant Program
- Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada
- Eligible to work in Canada / Ontario
- Current ACLS and BCLS
- Demonstrates excellent time management, prioritization, decision-making, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work under pressure
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, spoken and written, with the ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders with professionalism, tact and diplomacy
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials in a professional manner
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
- Demonstrates values consistent with SHN s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
