We are currently seeking a highly collaborative and passionate teacher to lead our Humanities / Canada World Studies and Social Science department.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to shape the educational experience of our students, fostering intellectual curiosity, agility, and compassion.

Our curriculum embraces inquiry-based instructional strategies that align with our Signature of a BSS Girl attributes and our Culture of Powerful Learning best teaching practices.

As a Department Head at The Bishop Strachan School, you'll serve as an instructional leader, mentor, and visionary within our Grade 7 to 12 departments.

You'll work closely with the Middle & Senior School Leadership Team to implement strategic goals and initiatives, sharing responsibility for shaping the academic program and ensuring excellence in curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the Humanities / Canada World Studies and Social Science department with passion and dedication.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages interdisciplinary and real-world connections.
  • Mentor and coach educators to ensure excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Work with the Academic Program Team to implement strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment practices.
  • Prepare lesson plans, outlines and assessments using inquiry and problem-based learning that engages students, challenges them, and meetings the subject-specific outcomes and expectations.
  • Ability to differentiate lesson plans based on the needs of your students.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities including coaching, clubs, trips and participating in the school community as a whole.
  • Communicate effectively with parents about all aspects of the overall program and the individual learning of each student.
  • Integrate diversity, equity, inclusiveness and belonging into the classroom learning environment.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to take risks.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflection to continuously improve teaching practices and student outcomes.

Qualifications :

  • Must have an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certificate.
  • Intermediate / Senior teaching qualifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in History, Social Science, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching Canada World Studies / Humanities and Social Science subjects at the Grade 7 to 12 level.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach educators.
  • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to fostering a culture of inquiry and innovation.
  • Expertise in curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment and evaluation.
