About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Cyber Security & Network Specialist to join the Centerra Corporate team. This position is a hybrid role based at our Toronto, ON office .

Travel within Canada and internationally may be required.

Reporting to the Manager of Information Technology, the Cyber Security and Network Specialist is responsible for administering and implementing security controls to protect organization networks, systems, and data.

One of your key responsibilities is managing security operations using various tools to monitor and work closely with vendors to reduce risk to organizational assets and data.

You will play an integral role in recommending and implementing appropriate security controls to protect company information assets from unauthorized access and compromise / loss, mitigate cyber-related risks, and ensure the overall network and security posture is aligned with business needs.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :

  • Respond to cybersecurity incidents, breaches, and malware threats.
  • Monitor systems activity to identify vulnerable points.
  • Use Microsoft SIEM to create reports, dashboards, and queries for security requirements.
  • Make configuration changes to network devices (switches, firewalls).
  • Assist with deploying new switches and firewalls.
  • Conduct threat analysis, researching evolving threats, and provide recommendations to improve security posture.
  • Utilize frameworks to scale both protection and mitigation tools beyond doing everything manually or repetitively.
  • Assist in creating information security policies and procedures to support the organization’s risk and information security governance program.
  • Assist business units to ensure new processes or services meet network and security requirements.
  • Work with security vendors regularly to protect against emerging threats and develop controls to protect against security breaches.
  • Identify risk areas and provide recommendations to improve the organization’s security posture, both for on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Implement security controls, defenses, and countermeasures to prevent attacks.
  • Maintain electronic documentation for network diagrams, processes / procedures, and inventory (CMDB).
  • Keep up with the latest cybersecurity threats as they evolve.
  • Additional responsibilities will include undertaking ad-hoc tasks as required.

About you

To qualify, you must have a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or other related major or equivalent combination of education & work experience .

You will also have at least 2-4 years of experience in network and security engineering or a similar technical role and security incident response experience .

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role :

  • Experience researching, building, and implementing defensive security controls that defend against internal and external attack vectors.
  • Knowledge of network routing, switching, security devices, wireless, and advanced threat detection toolsets.
  • Good understanding of network segmentation and methodologies.
  • Experience working with Next Generation Firewalls (preferably Fortinet), Layer 2 / 3 core, and access switches (Cisco).
  • Strong commitment to professional client service end-user excellence.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft (Azure, Office 365) security technologies and networking.
  • Certifications are preferred (CCNA, Security+).
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and demonstrated ability to work with others effectively in teams.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Expertise in understanding threat models to better protect against attacks and detect new vectors.
  • An interest in staying abreast of cyber security trends.
  • A forward thinker and self-starter who thrives on and adapts quickly to new challenges.
  • A strong work ethic, an ability to manage multiple tasks, and tight deadlines with confidence.
