The Manager, Digital Learning fulfils a key role in building out Mohawk’s Agile Learning Scape. They are responsible for managing the team responsible for providing instructional guidance to all faculty in the creation of new courses and / or the conversion of courses to Hy-Flex, hybrid and online delivery.
The Manager, Digital Learning supports the work involved in the multi-year Digital Learning Strategy in addition to work required to develop a strategic program portfolio.
They also work with the leadership of CEAD to develop and build out the strategy for micro-credentials, and support builds for CE, full-time programs, and degrees.
The Manager, Digital learning leads a team of 8 or more Instructional Designers. They must manage the workload for both on-demand support for faculty as well as planned project work, and design and delivery or Academic Technology workshops.
Projects are determined through interactions with Deans and Associate Deans based on academic and business needs. The Manager must determine how best to allocate project vs on-demand consultations, and monitor how that allocation is doing at meeting the needs of the Faculty and Administration.
On-demand work is performed both in-person and online where faculty can drop-in for consultation.
The Manager is responsible for setting out the process for project intake, project planning and kick-offs and monitors the execution and close of projects.
Working in collaboration with the Manager, Digital Skills and the Associate Dean, CTLI, the Manager assigns small agile teams for completion of projects.
When calls are released from the Ministry / eCampus or other funding organization, the Manager oversees the internal call for proposals with support from the Director, Academic Technology.
They are also responsible for the development and reporting of any successful bid.
Leading the team to develop a culture of customer-service, inclusiveness, and innovation all while keeping the team updated on the latest UDL, accessibility, and educational technology developments.
What you’ll be doing :
Definition of Services
- Lead team in defining on-demand support consultation for faculty.
- Develop and maintain the micro-credential framework for Mohawk College.
- Participate in working groups external to the college to ensure we are leading in best practices.
- Develop Project Management Process and Documentation expectations for group and ensure they are adhered to.
- Develop intake process, including forms, for micro-credential builds as well as for conversions to online learning, Hy-Flex and hybrid delivery.
- Determine priority of delivery. Seek input from Director, Academic Technology and Dean, CEAD to determine business needs / viability of requests for services if help is needed in determining priority.
- Determine the requirements for technology and utilization for Hy-Flex delivery, acting as a consultant to IT for faculty needs.
Project Execution & Operations
- Define project scope, goals and deliverables with the requester.
- Determine workload of Instructional Designers and assign to projects and on-demand consultation with faculty.
- Work with Manager, Digital Skills Services and Associate Dean, CTLI to ensure support for larger projects that Curriculum and Program Quality Consultants and Digital Skills Technicians are available and can be assigned to the agile project team.
- Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and Project Coordinator.
- Proactively communicate with project stakeholders on an on-going basis, ensuring that the project is meeting expectations, giving status updates.
- Ensure a project post mortem is conducted and recommendations are reported in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
- Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
- Ensure workshops for Educational Technologies are current, accessible, and regularly scheduled for faculty while modeling best practices in teaching & learning in higher education

What you’ll bring to the role :
- A Master’s degree in Educational Technology is required for this position.
- Certified Facilitator of Instructional Skills Workshop an asset.
- A minimum of seven years of experience managing projects of similar scope and complexity, ideally in a diverse educational setting.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Instructional Designer, combined with at least 2 years people management experience.
- Experience managing a budget.
- Experience managing broad set of stakeholders.
- Experience communicating (orally and written) to various levels faculty, Associate Deans, Deans, Executive, Board, Registrar, Finance.
- Highly proficient with educational technology Learning Management systems and integrated ed-tech tools.
- Highly proficient with MS Suite of productivity products.
- Project Management, collaboration & engagement skills must be able to achieve buy-in amongst multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization (up to and including Board of Governors) and including bargaining and non-bargaining groups.
- Effective management skills including excellent human relations skills, conflict resolution skills, and understanding of research protocols and processes are needed.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Solid negotiation, conflict resolution and team building skills.
- Customer Service oriented.
- Leadership skills in decision making, strategic judgement and in implementing strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
