Key Responsibilities:

  • The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for the overall supervision of skilled trades in a unionized manufacturing environment (millwrights, electricians, combustion/HVAC technicians, chief engineer, lubricators and other trades as per business requirements).
  • Responsible for contractors hired by the company to execute preventative, corrective maintenance and capital investment projects initiatives. Contractor management includes permit compliance, contractor orientation, lockout verification, safety oversight, work acceptance, and project close-out.
  • Ensure associate’s safety and overall compliance to the OHSA (Ontario Health and Safety Act) and all additional safety standards deployed by Grupo Bimbo and Bimbo Canada at the production site.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements including OHSA, ESA, TSSA, CFIA and corporate engineering standards.
  • Lead execution of maintenance shutdowns, major equipment overhauls and production line outages while ensuring safety, quality and schedule compliance.
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and associate’s engagement within the maintenance team.
  • Ensure efficient operation with a high level of reliability for the building, facilities/utilities and production assets, involving preventative/predictive/corrective maintenance tactics, cost control, safety, product quality and food safety standards compliance.
  • Drive root cause analysis (RCA) activities for chronic failures and significant downtime events. Lead implementation of corrective and preventative actions to improve asset reliability.
  • Attendance at daily management systems meetings (DMS) i.e. Gemba walks, safety and food safety inspections, lean meetings, maintenance weekly meetings, crew talks and other communication mechanisms to present results on the areas assigned and status follow-up for all pending tasks.
  • Lead the communication process with hourly associates and skilled trades through daily crew talks as per the Grupo Bimbo Maintenance Model.
  • Lead implementation of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) for the areas of responsibility.
  • Support implementation of capital investment projects through execution and supervision of CAPEX initiatives assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Monitor maintenance spending and ensure effective utilization of labor, contractors, spare parts inventory and maintenance budgets.
  • Understand production requirements and implement day-to-day actions to address operating issues by ensuring open and effective communication with all other departments. (This may require you to work flexible schedules in coordination with the Maintenance Manager).
  • Responsible for the proper execution and planning of preventative and corrective maintenance. Scheduling work orders in the CMMS (IBM Maximo).
  • Assess associate’s training, skill development and performance requirements and implement development plans in coordination with the Maintenance Manager and HR (human relations).
  • Develop, lead and maintain capable and effective associates in all areas of the maintenance function.
  • Maintain a positive union and associate’s relations environment.
  • Continuously improve the preventive maintenance program to reduce downtime and improve costs.
  • Effectively handle associate issues including in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Plan and implement PM’s on equipment as required.
  • Ensure attainment of reliability KPIs (mechanical downtime, MTBF, MTTR).
  • Ensure attainment of planning and scheduling goals (PM compliance, kits per week, maintenance plan compliance, scheduled time, open work orders, work orders backlog, etc).
  • Ensure execution of supervisory safety activities (safety tasks observations, zone inspections with JHSC, safety talks, hazards ID, injuries/incidents safety investigations and reports, etc).
  • Must be knowledgeable and be able to follow GMPs, Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements.

Experience & Education:

  • Preferred - Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation).
  • Also Considered - Engineering Technology Diploma, Automation/PLC Diploma, Red Seal / Ontario Trade Certificates (Industrial Millwright 433A, Industrial Electrician 442A, Construction Electrician 309A, Stationary Engineer, etc).
  • All candidates must possess previous supervisory experience. All candidates must have a minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory experience within a maintenance environment.
  • FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), food, beverage or packaged goods industry is an asset.
  • Experience supervising PLC troubleshooting and programming will be an asset.
  • Experience and training in OHSA.
  • Proven track record of compliance and continuous improvement in improving safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to train Direct Reports.
  • Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting, adjusting or repairing of equipment.
  • Working knowledge of work orders and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience in plants with CFIA, HACCP, BRC regulations would be an asset
  • Experience and participation in Continuous Improvement Initiatives, Six Sigma would be an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as project management skills.
  • Experience in working with operational budgets.
  • Experience with CMMS, Microsoft Office applications, databases, condition monitoring technologies and predictive maintenance tools to improve maintenance productivity and asset reliability.
  • Flexibility to work alternating shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • This position is currently on the night shift; however, based on business needs, it may transition to a continental shift. Shift schedules are subject to change, and candidates must be flexible to work different shifts as required.

The annual salary range for applicants is: $70,000 - $104,750, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
